Poured into sam adams custom glass, color is straw/gold, head is bright white, dense, presenting at least 1/2 inch thick, some lacing as its enjoyed.
Smell is huge citrus hop blast with subtler earthy, piney notes. Citrus is lemon rind, grapefruit and maybe some sweeter orange; the piney notes are noticed as it lingers along with some feinter breadiness.
Taste is less big hop with some more subtle malt flavors: hops are again big on citrus, grapefruit prominent, with some lemon; malt is lightly bready, maybe some biscuit. this is a great tasting dipa, wonderful balance and no heavy sweetness or cloying flavors.
Mouthfeel is well balanced: good flavor on the tongue and presentation in the form of the bitterness and solid carbonation with enough sweetness to compensate this amount of hops; lingering flavors/feel are prominent on the tongue and cheeks and then it just sucks your mouth dry.
Overall, this is a great dipa, love the huge hop aroma and great balance in the taste and mouthfeel - hard to create a brew this big without it coming off cloying in bitterness or sweetness, but this is very well done.

DirtWolf is an interesting animal indeed. It is a rare breed of DIPA that seems to approach the usual the background flavors of wet grass and earthiness and bring them more to the fore front of the palate. So it has kind of flipped the script of what an IPA is supposed to taste like. Leading with grass and a subtle dankness while the floral capacities round out the flavor profile. The mouthfeel is nice and heavy with the required carbonation to back it up.
If that sounds like something you would like you probably will. To me it tastes more like a science experiment then a well crafted beer. Playing your expectations against yourself is this beer forte.

Picked up a single in a mixed six of IPAs since the house was almost devoid of hops. Can't have that. It's not...right.
Pour is liquid copper dripped into the glass with a relevant amount of carbonation imparted by ye beer gods. Nose brings me news of earthy pine cone, bit of citrus, moist grass thrown on the cone for good measure. Interesting. Doesn't fit my beer profiling.
DirtWolf does the route of subtle vs. in yo face. Citrus is the bouncer, but there's plenty of the earthiness to back it up. Aggressively damp, dank, which normally I don't like, but the citrus make a nice circle of life around it. A little peachy, indistinct & possibly extinct fruitiness in the middle. Alcohol snarls more than the ABV indicates. Bitterness plays peek-a-boo, but gets more insistent as the beer warms.
Not my normal wheelhouse for a IIPA, takes a turn down the pass less traveled, but the path is a lovely one. Good beer.
