My wife and I visited Victory on 12/28/06 for a few afternoon beers before heading back up to Lancaster Brewing Co. for a birthday party.
When we pulled into the parking lot, it felt like we just entered a big industrial park. But I saw the big "V" on the building, so I knew we were in the right place. Found a parking spot right outside the brewpub. Inside, the first thing I noticed was the huge wrap-around bar. This place has a spacious, wide-open floor plan with probably 30-ft. high ceilings. We really liked the atmosphere, although it was a bit too loud given the number of patrons (probably due to the vast floor plan). We decided to sit at the bar since there was plenty of room and we weren't getting lunch. The barstools had backrests and were very comfortable.
The beer selection was very good. In addition to Victory's regular line-up (Hopdevil, Golden Monkey, Prima Pils and Lager), they also had Hop Wallop, Old Horizontal, Uncle Teddy's Bitter, Storm King Stout, Festbier, Mad King's Weiss and even root beer (which was awesome... we tried a sample). The only thing they were out of was their Rauchbier. Aside from their selections on draught, they also had the bitter and Hopdevil on cask. Finally, they also had bottle conditioned V-Twelve, Saison and Sunrise Weissbier.
I started with the cask conditioned bitter, which was good, and my wife opted for a sampler, which included the Golden Monkey, Festbier, Storm King and Mad King's Weiss. She liked all of the selections and wound up buying a growler and filling it with Golden Monkey (for consumption at our holiday party). I also got a cask conditioned Hopdevil, which was quite tasty and much better than from a bottle. We didn't really get any food, other than a German soft pretzel with beer mustard, which was tasty.
We received very prompt and courteous service, and our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about Victory's beers. We also had a nice conversation with a local patron. Before we left, I got a 5-oz. sampler glass of Hop Wallop. It wasn't bad, but it was a bit light and watery and too bitter (much like most West Coast IPAs). Plus I didn't even get charged for it.
Overall, it was a very nice experience and we will be returning soon.
