Took a trip to Victory this last Sunday for the Brewery Chilli Cookoff. The place was packed several hours in, but slowly settled down to a low roar by the time we left. The wading thru the loonng bar to get the food area was tough, but after 10 minutes or so, the three of us got a good table right in the middle of the action. My wife did the chilli tasting and I did the beer tasting. She enjoyed the different styles and the easy access to the samples (nice guys manning the tables). The beers were great and the server was good about timing the drinks, but was really off on the food. she appeared to be overmatched by the volume of people there for the chilli event. We ordered my son's pizza first to busy him and it came out warm and only about 4 minutes before ours did. I had the Pork sandwich and my wife had the Chicken/Avocado wrap. Both were OK, nothing to scream about. After finishing the food, we had to go searching for the server so she could give us the check.

OK, for the beer! I am a longtime lover of the beer that Victory puts out, so I was not hard to please. I tried to have all the stuff that is pub only or not widespread. I first had the Donnybrook Stout. This beer is now #1 on my stout list. It is low in ABV and has great balance between sweetness and roast body that I love in a stout. I also had the Festbier, which is bottled, but I do not see it much. Last I tried the Uncle Teddy's Bitter. A fine session ale if there ever was one. I had to have a second.

The overall value is good. There were alot of guys there and most seened to be there to check out the women. The rudeness level was high, but there were enough serious beer heads to bring down that dance club vibe. The food was middle of the road, the beer was great, and I did not feel like was being rushed around or being over charged on anything. I good experience!

I had not been to Victory in years, and when the wife and I arrived there on a sunny, late-summer Saturday evening, the place was the madhouse we expected it to be. Packed, loud and full of babies and children. But we got a spot in the bar area and quickly ordered some beers, followed by dinner at a table after a short wait. Despite the size and the crowds, they seem to manage the spot pretty smartly.

25 beers on tap is a damn fine amount, running the gamut from HopDevil to Storm King, DirtWolf, Golden Monkey, Noble IPA, Wild Devil, Rye IPA, Green House Saison and more. A bit for everyone, all served in full pints at excellent prices (under six dollars for Storm and DirtWolf). Three casks as well, and two bottles (White Monkey and V-12).

The food menu is as massive as the Victory operation itself, and it comes with new additions every day. We had some gnocchi, a small pizza, an eggplant dish and handmade chips. Good stuff overall. Not high-end good, but satisfying and well made. The emphasis on local ingredients is a nice touch.

At around sixty bucks for a bunch of beers and all that food, I didn’t find Victory to be expensive. Will definitely come back!
