I went to Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and there were not very many brewpubs around. This one is about 45 minutes west. The only other one not in St. Louis was in Carbondale, but went under. The few times I visited the place, I had a great time. I had my first Belgium Double here, and it very good. Other beers I tried were the Pale Ale which was very malty and robust for a PA, and an English Bitter. Pretty good all around. Not the best but way above average.

The food was average, but that is not what you go there for. The service is decent, and the atmosphere is great (I am a Cubs fan, but always find a good Cardinals fan there to talk baseball with). This is a place I wish I could visit more often, but I live in Texas now, oh well. If you are ever in Cape Girardeau you need to check it out.

Located in downtown district next to the Mississippi River. It's a large place in what used to be a department store. The "brewery" is to your right as your enter then there is a large bar. In the back there is seating that overlooks the river. They normally have 7-8 beers on tap, a couple are usually seasonal. The beers we had we quite decent but nothing outstanding. But considering where you are, it was quite good. The menu seem quite good, from "pub grub" to regular meals with a daily special or two thrown in. My only complaint was how slow the service was.

My wife and I visited the Buckner Brewing Company for the second time in two years since she has relatives in the area. I can truly say we were both less that impressed with the food and beer. We both ordered medium burgers which were served well done. My wife ordered the "Black and Blue Burger" which was served with Blue Cheese Dressing instead of real Blue Cheese. I ordered the Buckner Porter which was probalbly the worst Porter I ever tasted to date. Although the prices are good, we do not plan on going there a third time.

Stopped by this place while in town for a business trip. Not much in Cape Girardeau for a Beer Advocate so you have to take what you can get. The building is right on the Mississippi River on Main Street. On a Tuesday night, it's one of the few places gettting a decent crowd (although I'm thinking 'main' street doesn't get much foot traffic).

Wait staff were very friendly and quick to take your order.

Had fish and chips which were pretty good and a value at $8.99. The beers (Pale Ale, Honey Wheat, and Porter) were not steller but washed the food down and quenched my thirst on a hot August night.

We visited The Buckner Brewing Company last week. I ordered steak and my husband ordered fish and chips. He really liked his fish and chips and I thought my steak was done pretty poorly. The place was not busy, few tables were occupied (Saturday night but it was December 30th, so maybe the date has something to do with the lack of a crowd?) Our waitress knew nothing about beer, and wasn't too good at getting our order correct.

It wasn't too pricy, but I'd stick with simple pub-fair if you go. The menu was fairly diverse with a range from American-style Mexican food, to steaks, to standard English Pub fair. Don't bother with the steak.

I tried the seasonal holiday ale and thought it was probably one of the best flavored seasonsal ales I've had, it was sufficiently hoppy/malty to still be predominantly beer and the holiday spices were subtle. My husband didn't like his porter.

I did like the atmosphere, the views out the windows might look much more impressive on a non-rainy night, I liked the historic pictures of Cape Girardeau. But it was a little dingy and some light-bulbs did need replacing.

Located in a cool downtown area of the city, historic and near the city, this brewpub is in a building that looks like it's seen plenty of action. Well worn in, but still charming. You can see the breworks on the right as you walk in the front door, and just past it is the bar. Nice bar with natural lighting above.

The bartender says they usually have eight beers on tap, but we caught them on a "day of changes" leaving us with 6 beers.

There were a wheat, raspberry wheat, steam beer, pale ale, amber and porter.

The beers were decent, but i was disappointed in the porter.

There is live music downstairs, along with darts, pool etc. There is second level seating with a river view, and a conference room on the third floor with two walls of windows looking upon the river.

Great establishment that allows you to sample hand-crafted brews while watching the Mississippi river flow by. While they had just sold out of their Raspberry Wheat (the reason I went!), they still had a nice selection of dark and light beer. Their Wheat was a little bland and lacked the character of other brands but the Golden Ale was superb and really produced a great flavor. You can try a small sample of all of their Brews for just $5. The menu is unique, but distinctly Southeast Missouri fare with Pork BBQ, stuffed sandwiches and beer-battered chicken and fish. Overall, make sure you stop at this place when you hit "The Cape".
