"Our brown porter is full of chocolate flavor with a subtle roast flavor not as pronounced as a stout. A moderate bitterness supports the mall and finishes slightly dry."
A: very dark brown to black, foamy head that covers the surface of the beer well into the pour. Lacing on the side ensues.
S: roasted and nutty, but much subdued. Also a bit of weak coffee.
T/M: the coffee taste comes out more than it does in the smell, the nuttiness (walnut, perhaps) is more of an undertone. As the taste moves on, the nut flavors increase as a slightly oily feel on the tongue. The carbonation holds up, and there is a nice, not overpowering bitterness through the end taste.
O: I first tried the bourbon barrel-aged version of this beer (6.5%), and wanted to grab another bit decided to try the original. I do agree with the description, in that it has brown ale notes to it, but is a bit more.
Serving type: on-tap
