Dropped by about 45 minutes before closing time on a Sunday. Place was packed. Ordered a flight. Most of the beers I had were pretty average, some a little better (the Saison and brown), some worse (Easy Rye'da was rather awful). The crowd most definitely didn't match the quality of the beer. Kicker was at 5:01 (closing time was 5::00), they were yelling for people to get out. Can't imagine why anyone would choose this place over other quality breweries in the area, except for the fact that their hours are more generous (I'll admit I don't really understand the brewery hours in this part of the country - some are open only 13 hours a week).

General atmosphere and decor was kind of cool. Too bad the beer and staff didn't match,

A small location where the draft room is right next to the brewing area. Consistent quality and although there is no food available on premises there is frequently a food truck of one kind or another just outside the door and often the food options are exceptional.

I enjoyed the Easy Rye DA (rye beer). Very drinkable.
The CT Love Bomb was very interesting and enjoyable. It was wet hopped with Connecticut grown hops.
The Granola Brown Ale is liked by most people.
Disco Pig 7 Pineapple was not liked by any of us. It was a sour beer with pineapple juice.
Nice casual atmosphere. Most people had to stand.

Solid place, relaxed vibe. Can get full pours or flights. Seating is pretty much right in the treehouse. Have a decent variety of beers most days and food trucks on the weekend. Great place to relax and have a few.

Enjoyed the visit here over the Thanksgiving weekend. You are right in the middle of the operation in the "tasting room". The point is that there is no room, they just have some space in the brewery with the ropes to keep you from touching the equipment. Some seating, a few tables and some separate benches so as it got crowded not everyone had a place to sit. Sampler comes in a muffin tin which was cool. Have a Galaga / Ms. Pacman machine in the corner that was free to play and my 4 year old monopolized the whole time we were there, a nice bonus.

Fun little place in an industrial complex. Friendly staff, all of their beers are on tap for tastings, pints and growler fills. Lots of swag, and not just the beer. For such a small place they do a good job when it gets busy and they put on a good face. Very customer focused. Meaning they aren't there to pretend they are doing you a favor by being open.

Went yesterday. The GPS put me at the driveway of an industrial complex and told me that I had "arrived". Yeah, I don't think so. You have to go ALL the way in the back of this complex to the backside of the last building. Talk about tucked away. You walk into the brewery itself, lots of stacked boxes, wooden pallete tables, big chalkboard drawings. Super cool place with a good crowd. Beers were fresh and seemed to rotate frequently. We missed out on the Hog Water and the Easy Rye'Da switched to SWAG. No biggie, ended up getting to try the Disco Pig 2.1 (DP #2 in Cab Franc barrels) along with Iron Hog. Loved Disco Pig but wasn't crazy about Iron Hog. They had 8 beers on tap, plus Iron Hog in cans and 3 versions of Disco Pig in bottles. Service was OK, seemed a touch spotty but we got what we wanted. Would go back again, but the regular line up of beer was pretty average.

I have not been to too terribly many breweries, but BH is my favorite by far. Great 16oz pours of their standard lineup at $4 ea along with some specialties thrown in, a phenomenal "beery" atmosphere, and more times than not free food. A must for beer lovers in CT. This is the type of brewery/tapproom you can spend a full day at.

Driving backroads from southern Fairfield County, we expected to find Melon Heads lurking around every corner. Thanksfully, the brewery was nestled away in typical startup brewery fashion--in a large commercial warehouse development. Unpretentious with a laid back vibe, extremely fast and effecient bar staff and a great selection of beers and loads of cool merch to boot (if you're into that). Unlike some other local breweries, Black Hog puts its bar in the midst of thing. The tasting area is surrounded by vats and piles of packaged malt. We had flights--6 beers for $8.00--a great bargain. And we took home two growlers and a bottle of Disco Pig La Rouge Trois, their limited release. Worth the drive and a pleasant way to spend a sunny Friday afternoon in late May.

When I followed my GPS to Black Hog it took me to an industrial looking complex and I thought it seemed odd. That's until I walked in the door at least. This place has a very cool raw industrial look inside in which the beer is brewered right behind the standing room and the tables are made from wooden pallets (very creative and cool looking). There are Jenga style blocks to use with friends and fantastic chalk art on the board. Good beer, unique vibe, minimalist yet adding up to more than the sum of its parts. I've only been to a few CT breweries but so far this is my favorite and I'll definitely be back.

Right down the road from OEC Brewing so it's worth checking out if in the area for that.

A nice wide open space, medium sized bar with a couple of picnic tables in front of some towering brew tanks. They had 8 beers on tap, with a wide assortment of styles. A flight of all 8 beers only cost $10 so the value was pretty good.

The beers ranged from average to pretty good, but nothing really mind blowing. The staff was nice, but the growler fills seemed a little steep ($15 for a fill of one of their standard offerings), while a 'squealer' was $8 for the same thing.. you think people would get a bit of a discount for a larger pour but apparently not. Either way, solid brews in a pretty desolate part of the state, if you're in the area for OEC (highly recommended) you should swing by here and sample their offerings.
