Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is brewed with a blend of barley malts and crushed wheat to gently lighten the body. True Blue is a crisp blueberry ale with an assertive blueberry nose followed by a more subtle blueberry flavor in the body of the beer. We feel you won't find another beer quite like it.

12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.

A: Clear orange body; thin head of frothy off-white foam. Mediocre retention and lacing. Ok.

S: It's fruity, but more in an overripe stone fruit kind of way than a fresh blueberry one. Some sweet caramel malt, too. Not exactly pleasant.

T: Malty up front, with caramel and toasted bread leading in to some blueberry flavor midway through. Dull, bittersweet finish. A bit of fruit on the aftertaste, but not much. Pretty boring.

M: Highly carbonated medium body; starts out a little prickly but ends with some nice creaminess.

O: I had this back-to-back with Atlantic's Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale, and was surprised how strikingly different they were. That beer, while far from spectacular, did a nice job highlighting the blueberries. Fruit is more of an afterthought here, but sadly the base beer isn't too interesting.

Cheers!

Tasted On: 08-10-2012
Freshness: Not indicated
Packaging: 12 oz. brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Weizen glass
Purchased: Received in a trade

Color is a dark amber, cloudy beer, with a nice sized off-white head. Retention is good, with a fair amount of lace on the glass.

Aromas are fruity and of blueberries, plus malted wheat. Overall the aromas are not strong.

The taste is of berries and fruit, sweet with a slight tartness as well. A low level of earthy bitterness keeps the flavor in check.

The feel is light and refreshing, with carbonation somewhere between medium and high. Aftertastes are fruity and somewhat sweet.

Overall this is an enjoyable wheat/fruit beer, best suited for the summer.

Thanks to Greg for this one!

Poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, clear, orange brown in color, high carbonation

Smell: big time blueberries—light caramel and bread

Taste: toasted and pale malt at first followed by big time blueberry in the middle to the end—

Mouthfeel: light body, sweetish start with a bitterness in the middle that becomes sweeter to the end, medium-high carbonation

Overall: A very good, clean, and sessionable blueberry beer. There are several blueberry beers I prefer but this one is in the top ten. I like how the blueberries are natural tasting and the beer is not too sweet.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Apperance: Darker orange color with a slight haze. Thin white head with no lacing.

Smell: Wheat and grassy notes with the stronger hint of wild blueberries.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste is grassy and wheat notes with hints of blueberry.

Overall: I have had this beer many times and it remains one of my favorite blueberry beers from Maine.

Into a pint glass:

A: clean copper colored body with a half finger white head, there was some sporadic lacing leaving no rings. The lacing gently slid down the sides of the glass.

S: centered around the blueberries with just a bit of malt in the background.

T: was the same, blueberries followed by the malts.

M: light to medium, sessionable, crisp and clean - very balanced.

O: this is an excellent choice for a blueberry ale if one decides to go for one. I would definitely have this again.

I believe I've heard of this before. Just never reviewed it until now.

Pours a clean copper color with a one-finger head into my glass. Wonder what's to come?

A nice whiff of blueberry greets the nose followed by a clean touch of malt.

Ditto on the mouthfeel. Very crisp, very clean and there's a good hint of wheat. It all seems to compliment the blueberry. Not syrupy like others.

Finishes clean too with a very desirable blueberry flavor.

I'm going to throw in a few organic blueberries in this. Very good and not as cloying as a few others I've had.

Poured out as a nice copperish gold color with a fizzy white head on top. There wasn't much lacing really of retention by mid glass. The smell of fresh blueberries were on the nose from start to finish. The beer was sweet smelling and welcoming. The taste of the beer didn't have too much a wheat body to it in my opinion, but it did had a decent amount of blueberry flavor to it. The mouthfeel was alright. Overall this brew wasn't bad, I look forward to trying more from this brewery soon.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. BLUEBERRY BEER WAR!!! 2 of 3!

Off white large three finger head, solid and foamy in appearance with visible cola like sized bubbles coming up from the bottom and sticking to the sides of the glass. Body color is a nice simple amber orange, cloudy and perhaps slightly hazy. Head has some good sticky retention going on.

Ok this is weird, off the pour there is a blueberry rush, but then when nosing the glass there is a distinct smell of white hot pepper. It's pepper DOMINANT and hardly blueberry at all. What the?? I actually don't mind this but I am wondering what happened here? This is spicy, NOT fruity.

Taste is a nice simple light bodied chewy malt with a very large toasty and dry cracker finish. Mild blueberries but also highly hot and peppery. Texture is fairly solid.

Overall I am not sure what the heck happened here, it feels like a complete red herring. So I can't just rate this very high.

aroma was very light, not overwhelming with the fruit at all, but rather very subtly blueberry with hints of yeast and a somewhat muted hop presence. A touch of bread like malts in the back. The taste was lighter then what I had thought. A typical yeasty pale with a significant touch of blueberry in the front. Ample carbonation again gave it a very nice and light feeling along with keeping it from going flat. There was a decent enough dry finish and the flavor did linger for a decent amount of time. I put the first one down in no time flat, but as far as how many I could have, the sweetness may limit this

Pours a fizzy 1.5 finger head fades at a med pace with a bit of lacing, over mostly clear peach orange colored beer.

Nose explodes with blueberry, frozen blueberries, blueberry syrup, and a bit of fresh blueberry, light sweet malts, hint of a light grassy hop I think.

Taste starts with a reddish malt, slightly biscuit, chewy malt, a bit of an herbal vegetative hop character with some light bitterness, bit of sweetness but mostly dry, there is some blueberry flavors just not as much as the nose had, more of the fresh blueberry taste than frozen or syrup, I also get a slight bit of blueberry stem flavor and bitterness, fairly clean and not overpowering on the blueberry which is nice. Finishes with some bitterness, again with light herbal hops, more lingering blueberry, and fairly dry with touch of malts. Very late on teh finish is a really nice lingering blueberry taste of pure fresh blueberries like I still have them in my mouth, that taste really comes out once the other flavors die off.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carbonation.

Overall not bad, blueberry just dominates the nose but almost a fake blueberry aroma, the taste on the other hand adds a really nice blueberry touch but offsets it with the herbal hops that kinda saturate a bit and don't help, the taste would be 4.5 pushing this to A- easily without those herbal hops, nice malt contribution as well.
