Finally dragged my sorry @$$ over the Maine border and snagged some of this at Tully's. Let's git it on...bombah into Duvel tulip...
Holy $#!+...HUGE 4-finger brown sugar head that looks like a friggin' bran muffin...tunnels and all. Sticks very well and slowly starts to lace em' up a bit. Body is so clear black that I can almost read my screen off the glass. Can't see too much of anything wrong with this one at all.
The dry stout austerity is something to savor when it's done right. Bountiful rust notes with slate and BBQ char on the chocolate malt girth. Hop pine is slight; grass is more abundant with slight root beer tinge.
Wow - huge coffee notes on the rich steak char and cocoa chocolate malt foundation. Just a bit of hop grass to balance out sweetness of brown sugar and a little molasses. Still, it's subtle and understated. This is a classic!
Warmth brings this all to the forefront. Sweet and bitterness of malt, coffee and hops gains more strength with heavy blanket finish.
This one comes raging out of gate but paces itself at sipping speed. Such an excellent effort!
