I was in Portsmouth NH recently and decided to swing up to Maine to grab a bottle of Cadillac Mountain Stout. I've heard so much about it but never tried it until now.
The beer pours a deep dark clear ruby color that appears black in the glass. On top a thick creamy tan foam head forms and leaves behind a ring of netted lace as it dissolves. The aroma seems rather faint for a stout, but I detect roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and nuts.
Each sip of this medium to full bodied beer is soft and smooth with a mild fizz on the tip of the tongue. The rich flavor is a well balanced combination of roasted malt mixed with chocolate and a hint of coffee. Reminds me of a mocha milk shake. At the end there's a hint of nuts and grass that give the beer a slight bitterness.
This beer is very drinkable and quite tasty. It has a wonderful mouthfeel, but could use a bit more aroma. I hope someday this beer is distributed outside of Maine.
