12 oz bottle, poured into a tulip.
A finger of khaki head over a pitch black body. Decent retention, but not a ton of lacing.
The smell is straightforward. Nice bitter roasted barley, with a hint of coffee and just the slightest bit of sweetness.
The taste is much like the smell. The bitter roasted malt is really showcased, and while not too complex, satisfies. The mouthfeel is lighter than you may expect, but smooths out a bit as the beer warms up, giving the beer a semi-creaminess. Hops dry out the finish just so, and lend a bit of tart fruit to the flavor.
Not something I'd go crazy for, but certainly a good example of the style. I'm glad I found a bottle during my Massachusetts trip.
