Poured from a 22 oz brown bomber into an oversized wineglass. No freshness date. Purchased at Craft Beer Cellar (Waterbury, VT).

A: Black with a short cap of light beige head which leaves no lacing. (3.5)

S: Huge chocolate and coffee aromas greet with some prune and fig dark fruit capped with a nice roasted malt character. Inviting to say the least. (4.25)

T: Comes off as sweet but has a rounded flavor that balances the roast, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and dark fruit notes beautifully. The chocolate notes span from milk chocolate (mostly in the nose) to dark chocolate (enhanced by the roastiness that grows in this beer) and are the most powerful. Espresso hits next and adds to the bittersweet impression of this beer. The medium caramel is leveled with the prune and sweet fig dark fruit flavors. The roast component comes in last and increases with warming to provide yet another impression of bitterness to counter the sweet fruit and caramel notes. No ashy or acrid flavors and bitterness is medium. (4.5)

M: Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a bit too much carbonation, which leaves a more roasted, bitter impression, more than it needs to be. After off-gassing, the feel is creamier and smoother. (3.75)

O: I have been looking or this beer since the yellow narrow Ratebeer ticker book came out years ago, and this beer certainly exceeded my expectations -- I can see how it might be considered an "imperial" dry stout -- it packs a ton of aroma and flavor into a 6.7% beer. Unique in execution and worth looking for.

1 PINT 6 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter

It is a black pour. There is not a lot of head, maybe an inch of chocolate milk colored foam that dissipates rather quickly.

Rich chocolate aromas emanate from the glass along with roasted malt.

The taste is also loaded with chocolate, but the dry finish quickly whisks it from my palate. I am left with a roasted nut aftertaste.

It has a fairly full mouthfeel.

This is a very enjoyable dry stout. The chocolate is the key to this one. The roasted nut finish is a nice follow.

Stout! Pours black as thick coffee with a dark tan head. Smells of coffee and burnt toast.
Similar flavors of char and chocolate in the malt, but has some assertive hops to balance. Thick mouthfeel but not cloying. Leaves the palate when asked to move on. One is enough, but a nice beer overall.
