Goebel Liquor is the quintessential place to buy craft beer in Wichita. This store has the widest selection of beer, period. There is at least one, if not two aisles dedicated to craft beer 6 packs. Craft 6 packs are available cold or warm. There is large cooler for single bottles to make mixed 6 packs. The selection is absolutely top notch with new seasonals coming in virtually each week. This is the only liquor store in town that I can go to to get what I need when I'm looking for something I cannot find anywhere else in town. The owner, Rob, has enormous experience about every beer he sells, and the entire staff is very friendly and knowledgable. The same staff members have been there as long as I can remember, so there's a good consistency there that is refreshing. The prices are actually quite fair, many stores are more expensive. Hands down, this is the best craft beer store in Wichita, period.

I was in the area for work and have to say this place is the BEST! If you read past reviews you will see but honestly they really know what they are talking about. The selection is OUTSTANDING. The service you get is beyond exceptional...Great people. The prices are resonable...I mean your paying for good beer. I would recommend anyone in the area stop by and check them out. The amount of knowledge they know makes the experience so much more delightful. I highly suggest to anyone go in and check this place out. Who would have thought WICHITA, KS would have such a great place.

I live about 85 miles from Goebel Liquor, home to Rob's World of Beer. I learned about Goebel about 4 years ago and now I don't go to Wichita without stopping there. Rob and all his employees are well schooled in the world of beer. I've learned a lot from these guys to say the least. My first trip there was overwhelming and Rob could tell. He said I had that "deer in the headlights" look, which I knew I did, hehe! I mean...there's a helluva lotta beer in there! It's like walking through the Playboy mansion during a house party.

All you have to do is take a look at the website to see that they offer a sick selection. And it's way the hell out here - amazing! More beers here than any other store from Denver to Chicago. I've been to the BA-recommended beer stores in Denver, Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, KS City, and St. Louis, but none of them have a bigger selection than Goebel. Check out the beer finder search engine on the website. You can see what his inventory is which is nice. You can also see all the breweries and brewpubs he's traveled to - impressive! We are so lucky to have this guy.

Rob's prices are fair considering the selection, location, and how hard he works to get that selection. His newletter keeps me on top of what's coming in. You'll find some aged brews there unlike anywhere else. Unless it's aged on purpose, it's guaranteed fresh. A nice refrigerated section of singles for when you just want only one.

If you're in Wichita, go there! It's not far from the airport either.

Amazing selection. Amazing service. Amazing deals.

Purchased Left Hand Smoke Jumper bomber for $2.99

Purchased Left Hand Warrior IPA bomber for $4.99

Purchased Boutlder Obovoid Stou bomber for $2.99

Purchased 2 Avery 2008 Czar bombers for $3.99 a piece

Purchased Avery 2008 Kaiser Octoberfest bomber for $2.99

I left feeling like a chump for only spending 35 bucks, but I left with a sixer of IPAs I'd never had plus 6 dank bombers. The help was fantastic, pointing out some of his favorite deals. I have never been anywhere that had much of a deal on any beer, much less the delicious beers with which you could stock a cellar for 100 bucks. Try to find a place you can find imperial bombers for 3 bucks, aged two years at that. Thanks guys.
I rated the place inexpensive because of the incredible sales. The man who helped me explained they were simply overstocked on some fantastic beer and are selling them insanely cheap.

Goebel Liquor is the best beer store in the state of Kansas. Every major city would be lucky to have a place like this. What Rob (the owner) does for beer in the state can not be overstated. I know of no other liquor store owners that travel the country recruiting breweries to expand their distribution into a particular state.

The quality at this store is top notch. They maintain their own in-store dating system to ensure product freshness.

The selection is second to no other store in the state and as mentioned above they actually seek out new brands.

The staff is what really sets this store apart. They will not only recommend a beer they will tell you the brewer's name and all about the guided tour he gave them. You will not have to educate the staff here as Rob has done so already.

Be aware that this is a premium beer store and the products/ service you find here come at a premium price. If you can find a beer somewhere else it will almost always be cheaper.

Goebel Liquor is my neighborhood beer store, and this place is truly a beer store. Wine and liquor are second class citizens in this store. Generally they are the first in the area to receive new beers and always have beers that no one else in town carries. Selection is never an issue at Goebel; if it comes through Kansas Goebel will have it sooner or later.

Service is always top notch. There's always someone working the floor and they will generally be helpful if they spot someone just "window-shopping". I've never had an instance when someone has told me that they had not tried one of the beers that they carry. In many cases when I've asked someone if they've tried a new beer the response I get is "Oh yeah, I had that at the brewery."

If there is an area where Goebel is lacking it is value. Often I can find the same beer for a couple of dollars cheaper at other local liquor stores. Usually they are also very bad at discounting older beer. However, just recently they started discounting vintage beers. I loved the 2007 Avery Czar for $3.50.

Overall Goebel is one of the top notch beer stores I've been to anywhere.

I stopped at Goebel Liquor while making the drive up 35 from Texas to Iowa. A big sign along the street makes it pretty easy to find. Inside, the store is pretty dark, and the craft beer selection is easy to spot to the right of the store. Coolers hold dozens of six-packs in back, while in front, a huge selection of singles are refrigerated. In between are two full aisles of room-temp six-packs, 750s, and bombers.

Right after entering, the beer specialist, Matt, approached to ask if I needed help. I had a list assembled from the store's Web site, and he was very helpful in telling me what was available, what was out of season, what was out of stock, and what else I might like. When I mentioned wanting Goose Island BCS, which wasn't on the shelves, Matt called his boss to see if he could release any from the store's cellar. The boss wasn't available, so Matt gave me his business card and said to call if I came back through, and he'd get me some BCS from his personal cellar. Just all-around terrific service on a level I haven't experienced before. I even got a nice bottle opener out of the deal.

Selection is very good, between loads of Midwest regionals and lots of imports. There was a particularly nice representation of sours, and a ton of aged Avery bombers (all the way back to 2006 and 2007, I believe). I was a little disappointed that I couldn't find so many of the beers listed on the store's Web site, however-- beers that I think are in-season, but just out of stock at the time. Hoppin' Frog BORIS and Black and Tan, Jolly Pumpkin La Roja and Biere De Mars, and 1809 Berliner Weisse, for example. Nevertheless, I was satisfied to come away with Rochefort 10, Hanssen's Oude Gueuze, GI Sofie, JP Bam Noire, and a couple others.

Overall, I'll definitely make a stop at Goebel the next time I make this drive. The service was terrific, and the selection was very good.

What happened? It appears the store has been rearranged since last year. This place still has a great selection of very difficult to find beers and reasonable prices. The employees are friendly and knowledgable but it seems to be declining, I hope that turns around...

The refridgerated singles covered almost an entire wall, they have a GREAT selection there and prices are reasonable for what you can get. In the unrefridgerated area with larget bottles, there were a few beers with multiple vintages, but not as many as I remember. There was almost another full wall of refridgerated six backs, which seemed almost duplicated in the unrefridgerated isle, except probably 30% of that shelf space was empty. I definately found some great beers here, but I'm not as impressed as I was a year ago. This is still one of the best beer stores I've been to, but its not trending the right direction. I hope things turn around.

Had the pleasure of visiting Rob's World of Beer this past weekend. I would say that this place is a must visit for any BA visiting Wichita, or even Kansas for that matter. I would not be surprised to find people making beer runs to Goebel from any of the surrounding states, I know I would.

Vintage beers available is a nice touch as is the equal attention paid to imports and American craft. One of the coolest features for out of towners wanting to sample as many different regional beers as possible is the huge selection of singles spanning 9 cooler doors. I left with plenty of GI BCS, Schlafly, Rodenbach, Cantillon, O'Dells and Boulevard.

Rob was there when I visited and he is every bit of a beer nut as the rest of us. I enjoyed chatting with him and he gave me a first-time visitor discount. Needless to say, car space was the only thing limiting me to under $300. Excellent beer store, one of the best I have been to.

My first stop in Wichita. A nice comfortable store with a large beer selection. If the beer is available in Kansas, I believe Rob's World of Beer will have it. A large single bottle selection is very welcomed. I did not look over the import selection very closely but it looked very diverse. There was always someone available to help and talk about beer. My gripes is that they have a whole lot of beer on the shelves that is well past its prime with little to no discount and also there is not much of a refrigerated selection of craft 6-packs.

Rob's World of Beers is hands down the best beer store in Kansas. Pretty much if its available in the state they have it, and even on one occasion I was gifted a great beer from one of the guys private stash that is not even available for distribution in the state. Now that is customer service.

The only thing holding them back is the lack of beer available in KS. I only wish that KS was not so lame and could get even more beers, which i would buy from Rob. From what I can tell they are constantly pushing the great breweries for distribution into the state.

Rob, John, Doug and Matthew are very helpful. They have an amazing selection of beers and this is coming from someone that lives in Chicago. Every time I visit I find something I can't get in Chicago. You can go in and name any style and what you have a taste for and they definitely steer you in the right direction.

I travel to Wichita at least once a month for work and I make Goebel one of my first stops. If you're into beer you have to check this place out. Great selection, very reasonably priced, staff will literally bend over backwards to help you with your selection.

I don't even know what to say. Went home to Wichita for the Thanksgiving holiday. Saw the previous reviews on BA and knew this was where I must stop for beer. Well, I know I can get a lot of different beer here in Michigan, and feel like I am blessed. I'd never had much luck when going back to Wichita, but that was before I found BA and in turn, found Goebel.

I walked in the door and mentioned that I had seen the site on BA. I was promptly escorted to the beer section and was told, Rob will be over in a second. Rob came over and then proceeded to show me his stock of amazing beers. I was shocked by the number of singles and six packs that I can't get here in Michigan. Me being an IPA guy, he made quite the number of outstanding recommendations. He gave me his card, I promised a review on BA, and off I went to look through the fine beers Goebel had to offer.

The first night (15% off night) I grabbed a 6 pack of Odell's, Bomber of Stateside, bomber of I2PA, and a bomber of Double Wide. It all disappeared into my stomach within 2 days. I had to go back to try more! For the last two days of my trip, I got a bottle of Indica, a bottle of O'Fallon 5 day, 2 bottles of Big Eye, a bomber of Hop Rod, and a bomber of Ale to the Chief. Even though it wasn't 15% off day, the staff remembered me from two days earlier and gave me the 15% discount once again.

Rob and his staff are very knowledgable and extremely friendly. I wish I had a beer store like this in Michigan. The closest thing is Bello Vino in Ann Arbor, and it just doesn't compare. You can see from my list above all of the different pale ale's that Rob had at Goebels, and I'm sure you'd be just as impressed with the selection of other styles too.

Goebels is going to be my go to place from now on when I visit Wichita. You won't find a more diverse selection anywhere in the state.

Thanks Rob!

I live in Wichita, KS and have never heard of this liqour store before. Thanks to BA and the reviews on this I decided to check it out myself.

When I first walked in, immediately I was asked if Im looking for any particular beer, and recommendations on others. It seems they know there beer there.

Great selecection of imports, Belgian(my fav)and many others. This is hands down the best liqour store I ever been too. Everytime I go its like im a little kid again walking into a candy store, always filled with excitement.

I'm in the Wichita area a few times each year to visit family. I was there for a wedding at the beginning of the month and I saw this place on Beeradvocate so I decided to check it out.

When you first walk in it appears to be like most other liquor stores in the area. Once you start looking around you find that it is much more than that. They have a very nice selection of brews from all over the world. One nice thing I found about this place is that they carry a ton of brews from the Midwest that you can't buy on the East Coast. Not only do they have single beers that you can buy off the shelves but they have a few coolers that contain single beers that you can buy which are already cold (nice feature for any beer store).

The staff seemed very knowledgeable in the beer they carried. It turned out that the guy working at the time was apparently the owner's son. We chatted for a while about all kinds of brews from NY to Kansas. He even recommended some breweries from the Midwest that I didn't even know existed.

Over all if your in the Wichita area and looking for good beer... then check out this place. It's by far the best beer store I've come across in the Wichita area.

Stopped by here on my way through town. The first nice thing is that they are open late until 11pm. The second nice thing is that one Wednesday, they give a 15% discount.

One of the first things I noticed walking in was their big cooler doors which contained a huge selection of singles. I think they pretty much had anything that was available there as a single. They also had a big selection of imports to go through which included a nice selection of Belgium brews. They also had a bunch of special released that I had not seen before. This was a lot better selection than I was expecting to see in Kansas.

Came here while visiting my friends in town, he was rather more adamant that I buy some beer while in town than I was. Good thing too, cause this was a top notch beer store.

So, I walk in the door, 'the guy' takes one look at me and says "Oh no, you can't walk in here wearing a Surly shirt and not bring some." Good start, for sure. Walk into their beer section and not a full row of sixers from all over. Walk to the next row, and note a full row of singles. Good Belgian selection, good micro selection. The other half of this row being coolers of singles, I start to notice that a lot of them are from the other row. Turns out, they pretty much have every beer in their inventory in stock in singles in the coolers, with a discount for six packs of singles. By now, I'm pretty impressed with this place. Start to stock up on stuff I can't get at home (ie the odd NB grew, Odell, Hale's, Weston...).

So about that time, 'the guy' comes over and starts up a good conversation about all things beer. Over some talk of festivals, BA itself, etc, he brings up that they sell vintages, flights, that they carry every single beer thats possible to buy in Kansas, and that they're going to get a whole shit ton more labels in the coming year. Like Oskar Blues. Being from MN, I usually think I'm pretty well off with beer, and now I'm feeling a bit jealous of my buddies living in Kansas? And when I check out, its well under what I'd been figured it be, and then he throws in one of their own bottles openers, that doesn't bend the cap so I can collect perfect bottle cap specimens. And then on top of that, he starts telling me about the beer bar we went to the other night (Anchor) and how he's basically designing their beer list for them. Over all, my best impression of any beer store I've ever been to. The folks here are doing everything they can to bring great beer to Wichita. Awesome.

I stopped by last week on my 10 day trip back through my homestate. First of all, Goebel's is very easy to find off of Kellog (U.S. 54) and West. Also, it is close enough to Towne West Square that my wife and daughter could just drop me off to beer shop.

Quality is amazing. Every beer I've had so far has be fresh or well taken care of. The service is even better. The head guy (I assume it was Rob), came out to correct a pricing error. Then when hearing how far I had come to shop at their store, he gave me the 15% discount even though it wasn't Wednesday (the beer discount day).

Selection was amazing. All the great craft brews that are available in the Kansas market plus stuff I've never seen anywhere. A couple of Utopias, rare Rogue brews, Anchor Anniversary ales, etc. Nice collection of Belgains and other imports that I had never seen before. Pricing is fairly standard for the Midwest.

This is simply the greatest beer store I've ever been to. I spent over $100 and could've spent well more on great beers to cellar.

Man, oh, man, What a store for beer!
Took the drive up here to Wichita from Tulsa (2 1/2 hours, one way) and man is it worth it. Can't wait until I can go again!

Quality of the store is great. The only reason that they didn't get a perfect score is because of the size. It's a little bit small. I do know that they have plans to expand though, so that will soon be remedied. Other than that, this place is heaven for beer lovers.

The service is some of the best I've ever had while shopping for beer(s). Rob, the co-owner, and his wife, are manning the store, along with their son, and a couple of employees.
Rob definitely does this beer selection out of his personal love for the stuff. He can talk to you and give you information on seemingly every beer on the shelf. He is a great conversationalist and great at interacting with people. When he talks to you about a beer, you can tell that he loves this product and wants to share that love with you and others. He tells you things to educate you and you never feel belittled or talked down to for asking about something. Very nice!

The selection is truly unprecedented for this part of the country. Granted, you can't get every beer in the world here, but what is here is above and beyond what is expected. Lots of good "well-known" craft brews, some things you probably haven't seen or tried, and some things that are just kind of hard-to-find items. Also, Rob seems to have great success at tracking down beer rarities. I'm pretty sure that they just recently passed the 1200 mark on available beers.
They have quite a few new beers slated to start being carried throughout the rest of the year and continue working on trying to bring more in, all the time.
They even sell verticals of certain items, which is way cool.

Prices are quite reasonable, about what you'd expect to pay anywhere else.

If you can plan a day trip (bring lots of money, you'll need it) or just happen to be passing through Wichita, by all means, stop here. Do yourself the favor. You won't regret it.

Oh, yeah. This is a liquor store, so they do carry wine and spirits, also, but for me, the beer was the star.

Cutting my rating for service it has been above average at best the last couple of visits & they are getting a bit pricey on some their brews $35 for a bottle of woodcut#2, really??

Drove a 100 miles outta my way, but worth it!

I found a few tired beers in my purchase, but overall quality was high. You will get a few when you carry this big an inventory!

Selection: Mind blowing, 100s of beers to build your own sixer, vertical sixers of big beers & much more. Bottom line, if they can get it, they sell it. Great to pick up goose island brews, loads of imports I haven't seen. World class

Awesome service & they loved talking beer!

Good value on the beer, spent $179, could've easily spent more.

If not the best the best store I've been in, damn close!

This is the best beer store in Kansas. I started visiting Goebel about 2 years ago, since I work out of Wichita frequently. It was a great store when I first visited, and now it is even better. Rob constantly brings in new beers that I cannot even get in Chicago. They love beer as much as I do, so I know anything they recommend will be good. The prices are decent on single bottles and amazing on 6 and 4 packs. You can almost always find someone working there that knows about beer. Also, they have a sweet selection of brewery shirts and glass wear. If you can't find something you like in Goebel, then you don't really love beer. If you are anywhere near Wichita in Kansas, you must visit Goebel.

Quality: Pretty good. They seem to be seriously attentive to the needs and requirements of carrying good beers.

Service: This place excels in service. Every time I've gone, someone has helped me immensely. I don't think I know a lot about beer, but I don't feel embarrassed about that fact here. I usually get really good help in selecting a new beer to try out in accordance with my tastes. I really appreciate the fact that employees remember me here.

Selection: Great, considering that it is in Wichita, KS. I don't think any place remotely nearby can compete.

Best beer store ever. Shocked and bitter I have to journey to Kansas to find the combination of selection, care and knowledge. Will schedule a longer visit just to take advantage of the remarkable inventory. The care for the beer in this store is insane. From the self-dating of beer to the super-cool UV protected lighting in the coolers shows an unyielding passion to ensuring fresh beer. I would drive 4 hours or more to visit a store like this. But I am damned to be in beer hell, AKA SoCal.Cannot stress enough - if you are a true fan and are a half-day drive away you must go. MUST SEE TO BELIEVE.

Anyone that saw this review with a B- next to it now it was my silly BlackBerry that wouldn't let me adjust the selection and value properly. This place rules.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said, but I wanted to let everyone know that Rob and company are still there and better than ever.

I've been going to Wichita once a week for a while now and was not only blown away by the selection, but even more so by Rob and his family. I was lucky enough to chat with Rob, his dad and son for quite awhile and it was a real treat.

The selection is comparable to Lukas in KC, but the fact that Goebel's lets you buy a single of anything in the store, (inventory hell for the sake of the customer) and the fact that they bring in every beer they can under the law is something no other store I know of can say. Add to that the fact that they are always actively talking to new beweries in an attempt to bring in even more. Thanks guys!

I picked up a couple Rogue 10,000 Brews because you just don't see them in the midwest. I also picked up a couple of Chocolate Indulgences because I haven't seen them anywhere in KC either.

They work so hard bringing in new brews that I'm afraid I'll find something I "must" have each time I go in...I've already spent a couple of bucks in my two visits, but I also got a cool bottle opener that Rob designed after something he saw in Belgium...on the house.

Thanks Rob!

There isn't much that hasn't already been said - rest assured that Rob has not slipped. He continues to get beers added to his impressive collection. Once my thoughts towards this place ran to "Not bad - for Kansas!"...but now it is officially a great selection of beer for any store in any state. As a bonus, the beer is treated quite nicely, away from the windows and not under flourescent lighting.

Although I sometimes see some of Rob's beers cheaper elsewhere, I find that I can't remember buying a single skunked beer from this place - more than makes up for the price. The 10% off the mix-your-six every day and the 15% off on micros and imports on Wednesday's are the clincher.

I rejoice when I see that they hope to receive Deschutes in 2008, and their web site lists Victory and North Coast among those breweries whose products are "coming soon"...won't be long and I'll have to consider this great selection a "5".
