A - This beer is black. An increasingly aggressive pour produced basically no head. There were a few mocha bubbles around the outside of the glass.

S - I get some caramel and vanilla notes. It has a dessert smell. The alcohol was apparent especially at the beginning.

T - There is a surprising amount of heat in this beer. I would have thought 2-3 years would have mellowed it more. The vanilla is somewhere in the background.

M - Full

O - This beer smelled great, but the alcohol taste was a little harsh.

No head really on a deep amber body with reddish tint when held to the light. Despite minimal head, there is still some scattered lacing. Aroma is fairly bready with bourbon, brown sugar, toffee, raisin and dark chocolate but overall the aroma is light. Flavors of chocolate malts, bourbon, dark breads, vanilla and brown sugar. Full body and moderate carbonation. Highly drinkable and booze well hidden. There are better bourbon barrel aged stouts but few as flavorful and drinkable. Thanks to Chris K in Cincinnati for this one.

Reviewed blind as part of the Bind Beer BIF 8. Sent from nlmartin

Ruby, dark brown pour. Sits dark and still in the glass. Poured with 1/2 head, which quickly turns into a thins coat on top of the beer. Gone by half way thru, and a swirl only generates some brief fizziness in the beer. No lace, but decent "legs"

Nose is somewhat boozy but nothing to retract from. Fig, Chocolate raisin, rum soaked cherry and... oak?

Sweet and dry, bitter chocolate, warm finish similar to rum/bourbon. Light on the generic dark fruit (can't pick a specific one out), a little tobacco smokiness. Dark roasted malt, giving off a slightly burnt toast flavor. Torn between oak aged or bourbon barrel... or scotch barrel? Does have a subtle peat characteristic, but I might just be over thinking this. Reason number 67 why this BIF rules

If this is a stout, I'd say medium bodied with a thin appearance. But I'm leaning old ale and being spot on with my expectations of mouthfeel

This was a fun one to start with, but maybe not on an empty stomach haha. Definitely felt a little buzzed afterwards. Guessing around 10-11%. Really great beer, overall I'd give it a 4.5

A - Dark black-brown with a thin layer of frothy brownish head. Fades fairly quickly.

S - Roasted chocolate malts, vanilla, oak, Bourbon, molasses, dark fruit, coffee, some booze.

T - Sweet chocolate malts, vanilla, Bourbon, oak, roasted coffee, dark fruits, molasses, black licorice, and some booze.

M - Full bodied with mild carbonation. Smooth and a bit chewy with a warming and sweet finish.

D - Nice overall balance. Could have used a bit more carbonation.
