on-tap, glenfiddich warehouse
appearance: took at least 10 minutes to pour, thick motor oil body, huge frothy chocolate cap that coats the face
smell: roasty, smoke, dry malts, bakers chocolate
taste: heavy roasted malts, dry bitterness, licorice, bakers chocolate, light notes of dried fruits. I was eager to try stouts and porters in Sweden until i realized how great the IPA's were. This was good - but a little dry for my taste
mouthfeel: dry finish, creamy body

Served in a Riedel glass. I like the bottle size (25cl), I don't get why many breweries bottle their huge stouts in 20 ouncers and such, stouts are suppossed to be enjoyed slowly in small amounts IMHO. If you want more, just buy two bottles it's just that easy...now for the review! :)
A: Absolutely pitch black, highly viscous liquid with a very thin brown-beige head which dissappears too quickly. Nice lacing though.
S: Milk chocolate and molasses. Roasted barley and chocolate malts, very sweet aroma. I get slight dark syrup as well. It reminds me of chocolate cake and strong black coffee. I also pick up some caramel, toffee and nougat aromas - it's a lot like a heavy dessert.
T: Ooh, very dry yet very balanced somehow. The finish is quite dry, that's maybe why I'm getting this first impression. Very roasty and toffee-like. According to the label it's recommended to serve this with chocolate truffels and I'd say that would be a great pairing, no doubt. Quite bitter. Hardly any hop character at all and I prefer little to no hop aroma in my beer so that's good. I also get some licorice in the finish..don't like licorice too much so that a minus. Pretty good overall taste though.
M/D: After half a bottle I get this dark LME kind of taste which leaves a sickly sweet coating on my palate as well as a lot of licorice (which I've found to be a very dominant flavor profile with dark LME when I've brewed with it in the past...and I find it to be a flaw). I don't like that in beer too much. Of course, I'm not saying it's brewed with LME it's just that it reminds me of it. Anyhoo, the body is pretty nice and the CO2 level is very good for the style.
I wasn't impressed with this beer. The smell was very promising but the taste and, especially, the mouthfeel were dissapointing. Wouldn't buy it again

A small bottle (0.25l) filled with a near black beer with a nuance of dark brown. The rather small head is brown and leaves lots of laing.
The smell is sweet, dark dried fruits, figs and dates, coffee tones and chocolate beans.
The taste is smoky, a raisin sweetness, bitter burnt bread giving it a rather dry finish. A complex taste in all.
Low carbonation, lots of stamina in this one.
This is a beer probably best enjoyed by itself.

First of all, a very cute 0,25 liter bottle. I like that a lot.
The beer is almost pitch black with a 2 finger light brown foam that quickly fades and leaves some lacing.
The smell is sweet, raisins and figs, and coffee beans aswell.
The taste is very pleasant, same sweetness as in the smell but more coffee and maybe some chocolate. It finishes off with a quite dry bitterness.
The mouthfeel good if you like the drier stouts, not as creamy as I want them to be though.
As for the 0,25 liter bottle I think that is just the amount you would want to drink. This beer is quite complex and should be enjoyd at a slow pace.

Pours a pitch black liquid with a deep brown head, although small, it is lasting and leaves some creamy spotted lacing.
Smells of heaily roasted malt, coffee, milk chocolate and bitter cocoa, and a slight creamy note. The smell is really... cozy, cant realy put it in any other way, the mellow and well balanced components of the nose are really inviting.
The taste starts off smooth with bitter chocolate and heavily roasted coffee, a distinct hint of toasted rye bread and sweet milk chocolate. The flavours blend together marvelously and finishes in a hard roasted feel, almost reminiscent of charcoal.
This beer has an incredibly smooth and full mouth feel, awesome!

Pours black with creamy one finger head, leaves patchy and beautiful lacing. Aroma is fresh and subtle roasted, it is not even very complex, yet so inviting.
Taste is similar, significant roasted bitterness, slight hints of licorice, few grains of salt; very dry finish and dark malty aftertaste. Mouthfeel is rich and chewy with low carbonation.
Overall, an interesting stout, it is neither bold, nor very complex, yet there is something very attractive and fulfilling about it.

The colour is black, the liquid id a bit thick when poured. The two finger head is very compact and brown. It sinks slowly into a fine ring and a thin layer. Very little lacing.
The smell is sweet, almost sticky. Distinct notes of coffee, cocoa and roasted nuts. Hints of flour, smoked meat and some alcohol.
The taste is not as sweet as the smell suggested. Malty heavily roasted notes, hints of alcohol and dried fruits. Dry bitter notes with some flowery and citric flavours. The aftertaste is sweet and matured with flavours of maple syrup, bitter herbs, liquorice and hints of fresh red fruits, oranges and grapefruits. The finish is sweet with a hint of salt.
The carbonation is mild; the bubbles small. The liquid is very smooth and a bit thick.
A very pleasant drink, not the most complex I have had, but very... rewarding.

This is nice and rich. Deep, as I'd expect for the style. A bit more carbonation than I would have anticipated though. Smooth feel on it. Easy to drink. Could have gone for much more than just 25cl. (That's about 8.5 ounces, in case you were wondering.)

On tap at Glenfidich Warehouse 68 in Stockholm. From notes.
A - Poured black and opaque with no visible carbonation. Two fingers of nice creamy head with a mocha colour on top left average lacing and a half finger cap the whole way down.
S - Lot's of great chocolatey and roasted malt dominate the aroma. I didn't get much else but it was very inviting and smelled great. Not alot of complexity but very nice IMO.
T - Quite sweet and rich. Lot's of that chocolatiness and roasted notes and a mild sort of coffee bitterness to finish. A tad bit sweet for me.
M - Medium carbonation with a medium body and that slight bitter note in the finish.
O/D - Needs more bitterness for me but not a bad stout at all. I have it written down that it was awfully sweet. I couldn't have too much but not a bad one.

Appearance - Black color with a brown head that stays for a while and leaves a lot of lacing.
Smell - Burnt, coffee, sweet chocolate and licorice. Smells like a chocolate dessert.
Taste - Tastes like the quite like the smell except for the licorice but sweeter and with milk. Finishes dry with bitter chocolate.
Mouthfeel - Creamy, dry, medium to full body with little carbonation.
It comes in a cute 25cl bottle! Perfect size for this kind of beer!

This beer comes in a brown long-necked 25 cl bottle. The label is kind of dull in color but it looks nice anyway. Some barley on the label.
A: The pour reminds me of tar - pitch black and a bit thick. The brown head is small. Almost no lacings.
S: A bit smooked and heavy roasted sweet malt. Then there's coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Some dark dried fruit.
T: The taste reminds of the smell, but there's also licorice. A lot less sweet than the smell but very dry. A bit salty.
M: Full body and almost no carbonation. The medium-long aftertaste holds most dry bitterness.
D: A nice beer. Not to offensive but still a bit complex.

A: Pours a dark brown, almost black liquid into the glass. The head is brown and thick with uneven sized bubbles. Good curtains.
S: The smell has a distinct smokiness, almost like smoked ham. Some soy sauce. Dark chocolate. Dark roasted malts with a nice herbal hop tone at the end.
T: Dark roasted malts and a very pleasant sourness at the very start of a sip. Then dark chocolate, smoked ham, dry grassy tones and hints of coffee. The aftertaste leaves a dry herbal hop tone mixed with some hard roasted malts.
M: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Oily texture.
O: Well balanced. A very nice stout.

You have to love when you take the bartenders suggestion and two locals comment how good it is. Bottle into a snifter. Pours black a medium tan head, really nice and flavorful in both aroma and taste. This is a perfect stout inbetween a us stout and English stout, almost a stout sessional. Easy to drink, semi light feel but tons of flavor.
Give this a shot.
