Apperance
An amber to almost red beer with a small white head meets the eye.
Smell
A nice and fruity smell mixed with a complex malty smell.
Taste
A light bitterness starts of, the esters comes next and then it finishes with a malty, nutty character with loads of dried fruits.
Mouthfeel
Lightly carbonate and creamy.
Overall
A great beer especially after a heavy dinner great pairing with a nice stiltion or other blue cheese.

A - Caramel, fairly clear, not much head. Only very spotty lace.
S - Malt comes up first, then bittering hops. A sharp fruity not is there that I cannot place.
T - Brown sugar, wort, lots of bittering hops and some fruitness.
M - Medium to heavier body, good carb, fair balance.
D - Very tasty. Very small at 25 cl, but tasty none the less.

2009 bottle, thanks Ethan!
Beautiful appearance: dark amber body, decent white head, super stubborn lace stays longer than uninvited guests. Top marks for the style.
Spicy, sweet malts lean against the booze, presenting an excellent aroma. Malty base lays the groundwork for a nice flavor profile, but things turn watery and bland after the initial burst of flavors. No aged booze flavors at all... Disappointing, especially given the nice smell.
Meh

Had this a few times before, first time really sitting down to analyze it.
This is a truly beautiful beer. Pours a reddish tone of caramel, clear as day. It's almost gleaming in the glass.
The smell is full of raisins, caramel and dried fruit. A bit of sherry at the back.
Taste is sweet, with plenty of raisins and plum, backed up by some blueberry and caramel. A litttle bit of bitterness adds complexity to the finish. Great sipper!
Medium bodied with soft carbonation, this is a joy to drink.
Overall, one of the best English barley wines I've had. Very balanced, with a lot of levels of flavor. Ages really well to!

2009 vintage on-tap at the Avenue Pub 1-21-11
Thin quickly faded head, fairly light lacing.
smells like candy sugar, toffee, and caramel. very mild to non-existent hop presence.
taste follows the nose pretty closely, I get caramel, toffee and sugar, with just a hint of bittering hops that have definitely smoothed with age and almost disappeared from this beer. smooth slightly sweet and extremely long finish.
mouthfeel is full and rich despite the age on this beer, could use a bit more carbonation for my personal taste.
overall a bit on the sweet side but an excellent european barley wine and an interesting contrast to the hoppier american versions of the style

The beer is brown, red hints, with a firm beige head leaving lots of lacing.
The smell is, as should be, vinous - Port, Madeira. Sweet dried fruits, figs, dates. Fermentation and yeast.
Abundantly sweet, dried apricots, spices, cloves. A good bitter balance, bitter almond.
Rather good carbonation, small fresh bubbles, yet a firm feeling.
I have difficulties rating barley wines, barely beers as they are. But to me this was rather accessible.
Note: Tried the same vintage 2011-07-16, much more balanced and a deeper taste, upgraded smell, taste and overall with +0.5
