Terrific selection at a small joint. Owner is really into his beer, and it shows. This is a beer-lovers bar. Awesome spot, and not much like it in the area.

Very well-selected tap list. The lack of a kitchen and food kinda sucks.

The Local sits in a strip mall on Airport Highway between the city and Toledo Express. It's an inauspicious location, and is clean break from the chains and franchises further east.

The atmosphere is like your cool, well-off friend's basement. There are a couple games to keep you occupied if you get bored. They were setting up a video game tournament on my visit. So it's a chill vibe.

There are bigger tap lists around. Bigger doesn't mean better. The selection at the Local is about as well chosen as you'll find. (and glassware is appropriate for the beer) If beer isn't your thing (or your wife/husband/so), they have a full bar, too.

I considered making a joke stating "the food's not bad". Of course, thats because there is no kitchen. There's popcorn or you can bring your own.

As the Local is simply just a bar, the hours are more bar-like than restaurant-like. They open at 5, and are closed Sunday and Monday.

This is my favorite new bar in Toledo (yes, technically Holland). It's in a plaza with just a few other nice (seeming) restaurants and the like on the long stretch of Airport Highway. Inside it's big, clean and open, a simple layout of bar and main area with plenty of tables and chairs. There are two tap stations with 7 taps each for a total of 14, and 5-10 bottles or cans available at any time. This is pretty much a place to come and drink, so eat before or plan to after, though you will get popcorn. Beers are sold as cheaply as I've ever gotten them before, and it usually evens out to about $5 a pint, and that's including the pricier stuff provided that's not all you get. There are really great tastings and other events that happen here, too. There's always at least one mead from B. Nektar, too, and be sure to check out the massive variation of Long Island Iced Teas the bar concocts. The owner, Brandon, offers some of the best service you'll ever get along with lots of info and whatnot about beers, brewers, and pretty much everything related. He also manages a pretty eclectic staff. Go here. You won't be disappointed.
