From a bottle dated best by April 2012 into a becker pint glass
A: Pours a rustic, auburn brown with a large and foamy cappuccino colored head. The pillowy head lingers for a bit and clings desperately to the sides of the glass upon the initial pour.
S: Malt forward with dominant notes of rye bread kissed by spices. A pang of citrus from the orange zest can be picked up in the aroma, too.
T: Big and chewy malt flavors hit the palate upfront with some evident sweetness. The spices of ginger and lemon zest complement the taste profile in well-blended form. Finishes with nice, biscuity notes that fade slowly off of the palate. Satisfying.
M: Lighter bodied and somewhat thin for a bock with slightly prickly carbonation. The mouthfeel is pretty smooth as it tapers off into the finish but the spices add just the slightest of a drying touch. Overall refreshing but the mouthfeel leaves a bit to be desired.
O: A pretty solid beer and one that I would not pass up on draft in light of lesser options. This beer is a great value and something that could easily be shared among friends of varying degree of beer savvy. Not spectacular but certainly solid and easy to drink.
