A: Pours a clear copper with a tight, compact off-white head.
S: Grassy hops, Christmas spices, and dark malts are very much in evidence on the nose. Not nearly as complex as I remember.
T: Notes of orange peel, cinnamon, ginger, dark bread, heavy cream, caramel, roasted nuts, and grassy, lemony hops wash across the palate. The finish is spicy and oddly prickly with notes of nuts, grassy hops, and spices.
M: Full bodied, dry, and bubbly. Has a ponderous, cumbersome feel to it that renders it less than drinkable.
O: The concept behind this beer is novel, but as a product, it doesn't come together (at least not this year). In years past, this beer was a winter staple for me, but this year I think I'll find something else.
