12oz bottle poured into a Samuel Adams perfect pint.
A - Boston Lager pours perfectly into Samuel Adams' perfect pint, filling the uniquely shaped glass with a brilliantly clear amber beer that's topped with a long-living white head that settles to lumpy foam beneath clumpy lacing.
S - Dry toasted wheat bread offers a sturdy malt base reminiscent of the Vienna and Munich malts found in an oktoberfest while just a pinch of mineral water and a very light dose of spicy hops balances the finish.
T - Smooth amber malts provide a blend of caramel sweetness offset by dry toast on the tongue while a delicate introduction of slightly spicy hops on the finish creates just enough balance.
M - Boston Lager is smooth almost to the point of being creamy in texture. While I wouldn't go as far as saying it's "full-bodied" like the label, it does have some weight; a little more on the medium side leaning light with it's dry finish and light carbonation tickle. The finish is exceptionally clean, barely leaving balancing bitterness on the tongue to offset the sweetness.
O - Boston Beer Co. would never have gotten off the ground if Boston Lager was a bad beer. This Vienna lager might appeal more to the masses looking for something beyond fizzy yellow swill but by no means does that make it any less noteworthy. The skill it takes to create a nicely malty and balanced brew that's a bit lighter with no flaws is what I would call an art. This work of bottled art is delicious on it's own, balancing toasty, bready malts with just enough bitterness but also begs to be paired with pub fare as it's easy going and extremely drinkable.
