How can one call oneself a beer reviewer without reviewing the father of American microbrews, Sam Adams? Without further ado:
Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass.
A - A clear golden-amber color with a small perfectly white head, that retained at least a thin layer for a very long time. Epic lacing. Yes...epic.
S - Spicy, earthy, herbal hops. Not much else, but a nice aroma. A tiny bit of malt aroma comes out as it warms.
T - Nicely balanced, with spicy hops dominating the flavor profile. Slightly fruity and floral at the same time, but not so much that you could really identify a specific fruit flavor. At no time could you describe it as "malty", but you'd notice if it wasn't there.
M - Tingly carbonation and a medium body. Finishes crisp and clean.
O - It's become cool to bash Sam Adams. Beer snobs call SA Boston Lager "The Budwiser of microbrews". It's not. It's a solid B level craft beer that's available at nearly any bar or corner convienience store. I love this beer, and I'm not afraid to admit it. I cant count the number of times I have been at a restaurant and been saved from drinking AB adjunct products by this beer. If I'm in a hurry to get to a party or function where need to bring beer, and only have time for a quick stop at the corner store, this is still my 6 pack of choice. All hail Sam Adams!
