Not the first one of these I've had. Poured into my Sam Smith pint glass. Pours a copper-tinged amber with one and a half fingers of off white head. Little retention, some lacing. Moderately active carbonation visible. Good clarity. Nose has light citrus and hop resins primarily, but some malts--biscuit and toffee, mainly--are there in the background. Decent, but not as well balanced as I'd like.
The flavor of the beer is an improvement over the nose. Toast and biscuit malt up front, with a light hop presence following. Slightly dry finish, bitter when compared to macro adjunct lagers, but the hops are just what the beer needs for balance; it's be too sweet without them.
Mouthfeel is slightly creamy, with a somewhat dry finish. Sessionable, and I've always thought that a blind taste test would be a good way to convert a BMC drinker, but aside from its role as a 'gateway,' it's a decent beer even for non-lager drinkers and I've had to fall back on it on occasion.
