A-Dark amber with a puffy head.

S-Sweet malty caramel. Light hoppiness.

T-One of my first beers, holds a special spot in my heart. Still tastes great. Pronounced malty caramel flavor. Like the nose, subtle hop flavor appears.

M-Pretty creamy. Tastes smooth. Well carbonated.

D-Easy drinking without sacrificing flavor. Nothing too bold but definately memorable and yummy.

Initial pour head of about one finger, but fizzed to a thin ring in a few seconds. Color is a 9 on the SRM Chart. Just a bit cloudy with very small bubbles. Pleasing taste, not too bitter or heavy. Sits well on the tongue and goes down well. The beer doesn't do the advertisement justice. I was expecting more. Not unhappy but not thrilled either. A trite pricey for what you get.

consumed 02-23-2009, 12oz bottle into pint glass.

appearance: pours a light copper color with a creamy white head. head manages to stick around for a while with a decent lace.

smell: a bit roasty & nutty. sweet malts.. picked up some citrus notes as well.

taste: caramel malts with roasted notes. also some nutty flavors. mostly sweet but with a mild citrus hop presence in the clean finish.

mouthfeel: smooth & creamy with right amount of carbonation.

drinkability: the balance of this beer makes it easily drinkable. also makes a good session beer.

A- Nice deep copper color, with a slight red burnt orange hue. Solid 2 fingers of slightly off white creamy head, settles down to a nice 1/2 finger cap on the beer, stays throughout. Decent scattered lacing down the glass.

S- Light caramel malt, mild but noticeable hop aroma, floral, light citrus.

T- Crisp and clean, nice malt up front, which notes as light caramel and honey, settles perfectly balanced with a clean hop bitterness, with just a slight lingering bite.

M- Nice balance, crisp carbonation delivers flavor profile nicely.

D- A great every day beer, very drinkable, clean, right on style, solid backbone, sold character. Nice beer.

A- Reddish amber. When on-tap the head retention and lacing is more substantial.
S- Caramel, biscuit, and butterscotch. Something of a hop presence as well.
T- Starts sweet with a nice caramel malt kick. A faint hop flavor does something to balance it out, with a smooth, yet sweet finish.
M- Medium-full, with slightly less than average carbonation.
D- An all around good beer, though nothing necessarily stand out. A reliable beer and a classic.

This is a very solid beer, and while I never seek it out, it does hold the distinction of being one of the beers that originally got me into craft. If there's only BMC and this at the bar, I'll happily drink this if I'm in the mood for a beer.

Nice light amber color with good carbonation. Tastes light and decently hopped for a lager.

Very drinkable, the only thing keeping it from being a 5 for me is the fact that I get tired of it fairly quickly and start seeking out something with more flavor/complexity. For what it is this is a great beer.

A: The beer is clear light amber in color and has a light amount of carbonation. It poured with a thin head that died down and left lacy patterns of bubbles consistently covering the surface.
S: There are moderate aromas of grainy malts and floral hops in the nose.
T: There are flavors of caramel and biscuit malts in the taste underscored by a milt amount of bitterness. A little bit of sweetness is noticeable, particularly as the beer warms up. The finish is slightly bitter.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is rather easy to drink and is quite sessionable given its low alcohol content.

From 8/5/10 notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

a - Pours an amber color with 2 inches of white head and light carbonation evident.

s - Smells of sweet, fruity malts, caramel malts, and bready malts.

t - Tastes of caramel, fruity, and bready malts, grain, and a tiny hit of bitter hops in the taste.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

d - A very solid lager that is very easy to drink. Have had many times and will have again.

Just realized i never reviewed the Godfather of craft beers, so here goes.

A: Starts with a creamy head o 1.5 fingers that fades semi slowly over a crystal clear amber toasty wooden brown color.

N: Nose has a nice crsip lager aroma, mostly clean and crisp with some light sweet malts, even crystal malt i think.

T: Start with a nice clean lager taste, some toasty malts and some sweetness, also light crystal malts, a nice crisp and refreshing lager taste. some nice hoppy bitterness in there too with a little earthy and light mild hops.

M: Mouth is medium with good carbonation.

F: Finishes very clean, and perhaps a little too quick, with a slight lingerin earthy hop bitterness, and light toasty crystal malts and crisp lager taste.

big ass 22oz pour at Logan airport, waiting for a delayed flight...why not

served in a big ass Hefe glass...big deal

A - served with almost an inch of loose but frothy just off-white foam, crystal clear beer dark gold/amber in color. sticky lacing down the side of the glass. has it been this long since I've had SA on draft? when has it turned so pretty?

S - grains, some wet slightly grassy and earthy (dirt) hops...lightly sweet caramel malt.

T - starts off a bit grainy before some assertive (for the style) earthy hops kick in, add a nice kiss of bitterness. underneath it all, a light layer of caramel, slightly crackery malt balances.

M - thin bodied as expected, spot on refreshing, prickly carbonation. finishes clean but with a lingering pleasant grainy/hoppy aftertaste.

D - what can I say...might be the setting, sitting in Logan watching a Sox game, but I cant remember having a Boston Lager so enjoyable. really a treat amongst all the other readily available BMC offerings. cheers to Boston!

Poured into a pint glass

A - Pours a crystal-clear copper color with a 1/2 finger off-white head.

S - Light caramel malts and slight earthy hops dominate, with a slight waft of orange.

T - Pretty much follows the nose, with a touch of spice in the finish.

M - Crisp and refreshing with a light body and high carbonation.

D - Great, ubiquitous beer that's a good gateway for BMC drinkers. Refreshing!

A: Served on tap in a big mug, beer has a nice head and retains islands of foam throughout the drinking. Lots of carbonation bubbles.

S: Caramel malts and hops predominant; upon further inspection, grassy and floral tones detected.

T: Caramel, spice and grassy taste accented by the hops. The longer you drink the beer you start to notice a sweetness. (I actually do not care for this sweetness, but the beer still has great flavor)

M: Nice carbonation, but the body is a little weak.

D: Very drinkable beer, easy to find beer. The only thing I notice is the beer is a bit too sweet; as your mouth becomes accustomed to the hops you start to notice it more and more.

All in all, I think this is a great example of an under-produced beer style. You can find it just about everywhere, its a good beer to choose when your at a bar with somewhat meager choice of taps. It is also good beer to bring to a party and try to get your buddies into "craft".

A: Dark amber, white head, noticable carbonation.

S: Fresh lager, fruity, mostly oranges. Hops is also noticable.

T: Same as above but with more noticable spices. Aftertaste is a bit bitter, just as a good lager should be.

O: Really good beer ease your thirst with.

Great beer all around. Appearance is excellent. Smell is fresh. Taste of wonderful hops. Mouthful see taste. Drinkabilty is good. Any more than 3 beers, a buzz starts to kick in. After a six pack you begin to buzz even more. This is a beer than should have been around a lot longer than you average American beers of Bud, Coors or Miller and taste better.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a laser etched bottom tumbler glass

A: Copper orange with a 2 finger head that sticks around for you to admire it for a while. Very nice lacing on the glass

S: Somewhat hoppy with a slight spice to it; very pleasant

T: All of the ingredients work very well with each other. Citrus, the spiciness, great hop taste, and the malt taste on the end has almost a dark roast feel to it. Excellent aftertaste

M: Medium carbonation, slightly chewy, almost reminds me of eating a Bit- O- Honey candy bar

D: Excellent beer for warm evenings. I would say it's sessionable due to the complex flavors going on; the beer has a story to tell with every sip

SA Boston Lager

Poured into Pint Glass

A: Amber orange with a white head.

S: Nice hop aromas, sweet caramel maltiness and grassiness.

T: Malt and hops balance nicely-an herbal flavor from the hops and a caramel flavor of the hops.

M: Medium body.

D: I wanted my first review to be of a beer that started me on the path of beer. A great beer. Nothing outrageous, but balanced and drinkable.

A: Copper/Amber color with a thick frothy head. Good lacing throughout the beer. bubbles are small and moderate in quantity, appropriate for a European styled amber lager. It looks good and tasty.

S: The hop smell is a little spicy and the back smell is a fruity malt. They almost balance each other but the hop smell comes out the winner.

T: a peppery Hallertau Mittelfruh hop taste is the first thing your palate is whacked with. The malt is fruity, chewy, and delicious.

M: It is drying and the hop flavor linger pleasantly. It goes down easily and can be enjoyed gulped. The carbonation is appropriate for this style and is welcomed. Very warming.

D: I have no problem drinking another of the same. You want the hop aftertaste to stay and not go away. It is good that the Boston Beer Company got big yet stayed true to it mission, to make good beer!

Like many people below mention...finally decided to review this beer, after many, many pints.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Perfect Pint glass. A nice, thick single finger of butter cream foam formed on top of the golden bronze body. The head retained nicely and has good lacing qualities.

The nose is simple...toasted malts, caramel and a pinch of hop oil.

The taste is a little more complex than the nose. Starts off with a sweet caramel flavor that slowly fades to a roasted malt finish.

Medium to light mouth feel...a little slick but drying at the finish; moderate to high carbonation.

Refreshing to drink and enjoy. A great beer that is easy to get and just as easy to drink.

OK, free beer event tonight and despite the hundreds of gallons of this beer I've drank, I've never bothered to review it. Time to change that.

Beer is poured from a bottle into a shaker pint. Beer is amber / brownish and clear. Forms a thin head of off white bubbles and has moderate carbonation. Head leaves very little lacing on the glass. Looks fine.

Aroma is kind of nutty and malty with some minimal earthy hops. Definitely hops in the aroma but not strong or bitter smelling.

Beer is medium in body and has mild sweetness up front, some bitterness in the back but mostly a malty feeling throughout. The sweetness up front give way to some carb on the palate and the late bitterness. Mild aftertaste overall a fine beer. I've had it hundreds of times and I'll have it again.

Samuel Adams Boston Lager
Vienna Lager
ABV: 4.75%

Aroma: Smells sweet with some malt. Very little presence of hops or any strong smell in general.

Appearance: In between a dark gold to very light brown color. A nice inch of head with some lacing.

Body/Texture: Medium body with a pleasant mouth feel. Not light or heavy, just right for a casual beer.

Aftertaste: Not very hoppy with a sweet matly after taste.

Comment: The bottle mentioned that it was brewed with Bavarian Noble Hops. Overall this beer has great drinkability but is nothing too special.

Classic beer from Boston. I just had to review it.

A: Pours a light Amber color with 2 fingers of off-white head. Laces decently.

S: Smells of citrus and malt. Not very complex but not bad at all.

T: Malty and mildly sweet. There is a slight hop bitterness and citrus note as well. Pretty decent for a lager.

M: Crisp and clean. Medium-High carbonation. Easy drinker.

D: Easy session beer. If no quality beer store is open, this is your beer of choice.

The ol' east coast standby. A beer that in a pinch, may be the best choice available. Hopefully not.

Good appearance, amber, good carbonation and head. Nothing noteworthy in aroma.

Taste, its all about the malt toasting, which is quite nice here for a lager. Some say hops, I don't taste it. Little bit of sweetness. Introductory level style. Way pricey for its complexity.

This has a nice coppery color, but not much head or lacing.
It has a malty smell, with some sweetness and a bit of hops. An inviting smell.
Good taste. Lots of breadiness with a slight hop finish.
Mouthfeel was medium with lots of carbonation.
Definitely drinkable. Good session beer. Great on a hot summer day. With this who needs summer ales?

[draft at Max and Erma's - Moon Township, PA] Wonderful coppery color. Mild hoppy aroma with just the lightest hint of sweet malts underneath. Good hoppy taste that is not too overpowering and leaves just enough of an aftertaste to let you know you just drank a good lager.
