22-oz bottle into porter/stout glass
batch no. 1
A - 4 fingers of dark tan suds over a body of pitch black; just beautiful!
S - strong smell of sweet gingerbread; various spices (cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg); hints of vanilla, anise, and chocolate
T - big bready malts, wood, fruity character, same spices from the nose (but more subdued than in the nose), gingerbread with icing, typical chocolate and coffee notes, lactose, anise, earthy hops; plenty of sweetness up front and plenty of bitterness (and booze) in the back end; gingerbread sweetness lingers in the finish; excellently balanced and pleasantly complex
M - smooth, oily, full body; low carbonation; alcohol warmth
O - The sweetness and spices in the nose are overpowering, but the taste is well-balanced. The gingerbread flavor is striking, but at the same time Merry Mischief manages to fit the bill for a stout. Different, but delicious.
