I got this beer in a Sam Adams mixed 12-pack.
Poured into a pilsener glass for lack of other clean glassware.
The beer looks very pretty, an light amber with burgandy overtones.
It smells decent, kind of a mix between a hefeweizen and cherry soda.
When I first took a sip of this beer, I liked it. It starts off in taste like a normal weissebier, which I love. However, with each additional sip, I felt like I was drinking Sam Adam's with a cherry Luden's cough drop in my mouth.
If you like cherry soda (think IBC Black Cherry) and Sam Adams Hefeweizen, you might like this, as it pretty much tastes like those two beverages mixed together.
This beer is refreshingly carbonated and I found it to be best when fairly cold (around 40-45F).
This could be a very good beer were it not for this artificial cherry flavor. It is very drinkable and refreshing, and wouldn't be a bad choice when trying to convert people from macros.
I couldn't drink more than a couple of these, though.

I generally consider Sam Adams to be a good (not great), quality brewer. And while I was at first reluctant to give them a try, I have found many "fruity" beers that I find quite enjoyable. But Sam's Cherry Wheat was a major disappointment. The dominant, overpowering flavor was, to me, far too reminiscent of cherry cough syrup. And not in a good way. As cough syrup, a cherry cough syrup flavor is fine. Mixed with beer, not so much. A rare beer that to me was undrinkable. I tried one from a six-pack, didn't finish it, and gave the remaining five away.

Had in a bottle long before I was "into" craft beer. Had it again on tap once I entered the craft realm. Pours a wheaty, sunburst orange color, considerably hazy and basically perfectly opaque in the mid-section of the brew. Slightly off-white head is sparkly and foamy and recedes relatively quick leaving some mild lacing behind. The aroma is cherry. That's it. That's all. Just cherries. I mean, I could sit here and tell you "it has some wheat in the background", because it does, but you have to search so hard for it beneath the cherry blanket that by that point it isn't worth it anymore. The cherries smell sweet, tart, and actually a little medicinally cloying. Weird combination, right? I can't decide if this aroma is good or bad - but the fact that I must ask myself that question tells me it's probably the latter.

It hits my palate, medium bodied and heavily carbonated. And that's where shit hits the fan. WOW, the cherry presence is not only overwhelming, but it's basically the only thing you can taste. And as mentioned for the aroma, it's not a very "good" cherry perspective. Hints of the profile taste natural and real - some tartness and sweetness that couldn't be mistaken for anything but fresh cherries. However, it's like the brewers decided that it wasn't enough, and they took it a step further and added a butt-load of extra, artificial cherry flavor to push the flavor envelope of the max. Chalky, medicinal, vitamin-like. It's like, tart cherry cough syrup. Or a sweeter version of a cherry flavored Flintstones vitamin. Aftertaste has a slaughtered wheat profile, still majorly enveloped by the cherry onslaught.

Buuuh. Save yourself the trouble with this one. The cherry is just way too overdone and overpowering, nearly to the point of being undrinkable. And it's not the "fruit-lambic" kind of cherry. It's more of a "take your medicine" kind of cherry. Definitely not for me.

Poured into a pint glass.

I'm generally fine with most of the Sam Adams products, especially those that are a little out of the ordinary i.e. imperial pilsner. However, their Cherry Wheat misses the mark. The look is fine - nice, golden color with a nice white head that leaves some lacing. The smell is not so great - maraschino cherry syrup; very sweet and cloying. The taste is not so cloying, but still nothing good - too sweet when there should be some tartness. Mouthfeel is like soda bordering on harsh. Yeah, this isn't my cup of tea, but I could see people enjoying this one. It's like beer, but not. Recommendation to avoid.

It poured a golden color with a very slight pink tinge. Lots of head that was very aromatic- no mistaking the cherry in this one. Taste was almost like watered-down cherry Kool-Aid, but the wheatiness saved it from tasting flat. Light mouthfeel that still feels like it needs to be savored due to the fruity tones. Very drinkable and goes down easy. No hoppy aftertaste and very refreshing. This would be fantastic for a summer beer or for trying to get fruity cocktail-loving friends into beer.

Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. 5.2% Alcohol content.

A- Nice amber hue with floating sediment appearent. Decent head that retains mild lacing on the rim.

S- Well... Cherries are the first hard scent almost over-powering the the nose. This is followed by very light, wheaty smell.

T- Taste is like a cherry soda beer. The taste of beer is heavily covered by cherry flavor that is for the most part all that is tasted. Mild hints of wheat and malt.

M-D- Mouthfeel is soft but also very sweet in flavor that makes you kind of smack your lips to bare it. Drinkablity is alright if you like a fruity beer to sip on.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

A: Clear golden color on the pour with a reasonable soapy white head of about 3/4" that dissipated pretty quickly. Lacing was pretty good, if a little light.

S: I'm sure some would ding this brew for the smell but I kinda liked it. There is a distinct aroma of maraschino cherries sitting on a light bit of malt. Yeah, sort of foo-foo but I liked it.

T&M: The initial hit is a culmination of cherries and malts that wash over the tongue with the aromas really helping to bring that cherry character to life. The whole thing is relatively light in the mouth with a fairly bubbly carbonation. The finish has that classic wheat aftertaste that fades relatively quickly, ending in a somewhat watery end with the slightest bitterness.

D: When taking a long pull, the texture is almost creamy and rather enjoyable but the cherry sort of wears on me after a while. If you like the fruit, this isn't bad, well, it isn't bad anyway, but I guess I'm just not into the fruit unless it's a lambic.

I really enjoyed this beer, and it far exceded my expectations. It poured a medium golden color with a decent white head. The first thing that caught me was the smell of cheries, very cool. The taste was good, with a malty start, then the cheries kicked in, then a little bit of a crisp, bitter finnish. This is not a beer I could drink everyday, but on occation it would work very well.

Part of the summer sampler 12 pack. Decent beer. Gold color with a medium head. Aroma just gave off a little sweetness. The cherry came through, thankfully, on the taste. Pleasantly sour. The label says it is crisp, and I would agree with that assessment. Refreshing, but there are a lot of other beers that fit that category.

This beer is revolting. It's like someone mixed a wheat beer with Dr Pepper. I got sucked in by having bought and enjoyed Samuel Adam's Cold Snap (which is pretty good) but when it ran out this took it's place. Yuck. I am on the ground with minimal sight and following the lights to the exit. GOOD DAY.

It has a light hazy body, pale golden color and a big thick white head. The aroma of cherries is very strong in this beer. There are some light malt flavors that are mostly covered up by the sweetness of the cherries and honey. The taste is good but the body doesn't really support the sweetness. Its light to medium bodied with soft carbonation and a smooth mouth feel. It's a very good looking and smelling beer but its balance is a little to sweet for me. However this may go well with a dark chocolate brownie. I think I will give that a try.

A decent dark gold colour with a very nice head and lacing.

Smells like an average wheat beer but with cherry very conspicuous.

More cherry in the taste than I expected, I could take it or leave it really. It reminds me a bit of cough syrup flavouring. The wheat beer behind the cherry is pretty good.

Mouthfeel is and good smooth with acceptable mid-range carbonation.

Drinkability is ok I could drink a few of these during the winter and probably enjoy them, but I wouldn't say that this will become one of my regulars.

Presentation: On-tap at the SA Brewhouse, Boylston Street, Boston, MA.

Appearance: Hazy gold with a wheat like carbonation that retains a very nice lace.

Smell: Crisp fruit aroma with slight cherry whiffs.

Taste: Crisp dry wheat malt, a little bit tart with a subtle cherry flavour. Some diacetyl is noticable with a light bitterness.

Notes: A great mix of flavours for a decent fruit beer. Nice and refreshing.

Pours very nicely, wheat yellow in color. Nice head and lacing, typical of SA. The smell is very appealing. It smells of cherries, but not overpoweringly so. Taste is rich and smooth, somewhat sweet. You get the cherry and wheat flavors mingling well. This is a special occasion beer, in my unsophisticated opinion. Great price for a beer of this caliber.

M- Fairly smooth, medium body

D- A decent fruit beer, but I there are much bettter options

Pours a slightly hazed honey gold, with a decent offwhite head. Head diminishes to collar and film foam within a minute of the pour, but leaves some impressive sheet and patch lace down the side of the glass.
Aroma is cherry soda. Like a "Cheerwine", a southern cherry soda that I loved in my youth. Faint wheat notes of malt are in the background.
Mouthfeel is average, with sparkly carbonation.
Taste is cherry soda, with a doughy caramel malt background. No hops are in evidence.
After a couple of these, the cherry sweetness becomes cloying and artificial. Still, this is a drinkable and somewhat light beer, if you like cherry soda with a mild kick.

12 ounce bottle, freshness date of Aug 04. Pours golden bronze, with a respectable off white head. Obvious nose of cherry and some yeast in the background. As advertised, cherry flavor carries the freight here. Typical american wheat beer mouth feel and body. Sweet Cherry flavor just about right strenghwise, present but not overpowering. I was pleasantly suprised by this one. Nice summer quaffer or desert beer.

Poured into a pint glass. The beer is golden with a hint of red. Had a nice head that did not last. It was clear with good carbonation.

The smell was completely dominated by the cherries. It was difficult to smell much else besides that.

The taste was also dominated by the cherry. It was too sweet in my opinion and almost drank more like a soda than a beer.

It was not horrible because it is clearly a cherry wheat beer, but I think it was a little too much on the cherries in both the smell and taste.

Taste: sweet and tart cherries, light wheat

Mouthfeel: medium body, moderate carbonation, sweet

The beer pours a hazy golden orange color with a white head. The aroma has a bit of wheat, but what really comes through strongly is a ton of syrupy cherry notes. The flavor is more of the same, with the sweet, syrupy cherry notes coming through up front. I also get some wheat in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Poured from a bottle into a Sam Adams Glass.

Appearance: Cloudy hazy amber color. Very thin white head with mild lacing.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Delicious cherry and wheat flavors.

Overall: Excellent cherry wheat. Well balanced and flavorful. Always enjoy this brew.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Summit Pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy, pale orange with very thin head. Looks more like unfiltered juice.

Smell: Sweet maraschino cherries is about all I smell. Maybe slight wheat malt. One dimensional but smells good.

Taste: Not surprisingly, it tastes like an American Wheat with cherry. Slightly tart but the sweetness overcomes it, especially at the end. Artificial tasting and cloying.

Feel: Moderately high carbonation, light body with a spritzy feel. I wish it was drier.

Drinkability: A little too sweet and artificial to be truly drinkable. If real Michigan cherries were used, why does it remind me of maraschinos? Not really bad, but not interested in having it again. Sam Adams worst beer, although I never tried the infamous Triple Bock.

Appearance: Cloudy and gold, nice amount of lace retention on the glass.

Smell: Inviting. Nice wheaty accents with just a hint of cherry aforethought.

Taste: Pretty good. Wheatiness is balanced out by a gentle hop nibble at the taste buds. Refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium. You definitely feel as though you have something, but it's not a full mouthed beer that covers the palate.

Drinkability: Good. Would make a decent session beer. Smoothly rolls past the tounge.

Definitely worth a try. On a hot summer day, would be really refreshing out on the patio.

Appearance is slightly hazy golden-yellow with a lively yellowish-tan head that shows a very faint pink hue. Aroma has a very full nose of medicinal marachino cherry and buttery-sweet graham cracker crust. I'm not really detecting any hop aroma due to the marachino cherries. Taste is very similar to aroma but at least the cherry is not overpowering the malt, which is by the way not as buttery or sweet as the aroma was. Hop flavor is pretty floral here and bitterness is kept to a minimum to make this a pretty easy drinking brew. Mouthfeel is medium-light and it finishes pretty dry and crisp which helps keep this beer from becoming too cloying. Not a bad beer for a hot summer day.
