look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 5 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Slightly cloudy, mostly yellow with a pinch of orange, nice white head with really good lacing, nice carbonation.

Smell: extremely fruity, like plums , apples, and cherries

Taste: Plums, Peaches, cherries. How can it taste so fruity? It's awesome, but unbelievable. However, where's the hops? ? Can hops taste like this? Cause this is too weird for hops to taste like, even though it's really good.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, bubbly, perfect.

overall: Extremely unique, definitely a session beer, delicious, but would like to taste more malt. (550 characters)

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Cloudy burnt peach colored body, fizzy eggshell colored head that only leaves a ring, no lacing or film on top.

Aroma: Cherries definitely come through nicely, faint malts.

Taste: Immediate cherry sweetness and tartness, grainy cereal notes fill out the palate. A pretty sour finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a lot of bright carbonation, not very smooth.

Overall: It tastes like a cherry wheat beer. The cherry component is really spot-on, the rest of the beer is rough around the edges. (535 characters)

12 oz. bottle, with the label notched at best before June 2014. Another new beer to me from Samuel Adams, acquired as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's. Expectations are average to below average based on this beer's current ratings.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a nice bright golden yellow-orange color with just over a finger of fluffy sudsy white head. Some scattered fluffy lacing. Looks very nice; I was expecting a much darker beer.

S - A touch of graininess / wheat is noticeable on the end, but the nose is mostly all artificial medicinal lollipop black cherry. It's really quite hard for me to pull out anything aside from that. Slightly musty. It's a fairly unpleasant aroma, but something keeps drawing me back to it. It seriously smells almost like a can of cheap black cherry soda.

T - The taste is quite an improvement from the nose, but it's still pretty bland. Again, the light grainy wheat presence is pleasant, but the artificial medicinal cherry is overpowering. Coarse, with an almost cinnamon like heat on the finish.

M - Coarse, dry, soda-like carbonation. Lightly grainy and wheat. Mildly sticky finish. Light-bodied, slightly high carbonation.

Overall, the cherry is clearly not very authentic in the least, and it's safe to say that it ruins what would probably be a fine wheat beer without it. One of my least favorite beers from Samuel Adams, not one I will be having again.

Sampled last night on 3/7/14 but had this once before back in 2012. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a pilsner flute galss.

Pours a light golden hazy amber in color with a good 2-finger white head that settles down to a thin layer on top. Some spotty lacing was seen with each sip.. When first opened, the smell of cherries and wheat hits you right in the face, or actually nose. The taste doesn't live up quite to the aroma but is very pleasant overall. Smooth to drink with no bitter aftertaste. (536 characters)

Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat Pours out with a small white head. You can tell it's a non filtered brew. The Color is a dark amber. Smell right off the bat is Cherry. There is really nothing else to it I can't smell anything else. The taste is also cherry nothing more than that. Not much else to say but CHERRY. If you like cherry you may like this brew. This brew is not for me. It looks good but the taste is too much. (416 characters)

Blech. Fruit beers just aren't for me. However, my husband loves the crap out of this beer. To me, this tastes like a mix of bad cherry candy or cough medicine, mixed with a decent wheat beer. If the cherry flavor was a bit more subtle, I think I'd like it a lot better. (270 characters)

Poured from a bottle with a clear golden color and a nice white foam head. Aroma is distinctly cherry. The mix of wheat and cherry makes for an enjoyable flavor. I’ve had some beers where the fruity flavor ruins it, but there’s just the right balance of cherry and wheat beer in this brew. (293 characters)

12oz bottle poured into Sam Adams Sensory Glass

Appearance: Cloudy orange with a lot of carbonation. Very white colored head about 1 finger high.

Smell: Strong maraschino cherry, nothing else.

Taste: Strong cherry taste. Very little body although it does have a slight wheat beer aftertaste.

Mouth: Very refreshing.

Overall: Not bad, would definitely enjoy again. (389 characters)

I was disappointed with the appearance. Was hoping for at least a reddish tint. The smell was redeeming, smell of natural cherry. Taste is a nice cherry at first but the wheat takes over and is overpowering. Mouthfeel is great. Perfect amount of carbonation. Not a fan, would not recommend. (290 characters)

I really really really enjoy this! I like the smell and the taste. It tastes so much like cherries! Its great for a dessert beer, but I feel I could drink this as soda every night for dinner.

If you don't like cherries and still want to give this a try... Don't. (263 characters)

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: A light golden color, filtered, short white head that dissipates almost as fast as it appears. No lacing left behind

Smell: Strong cherry smell up front, then a nice wheat background

Taste: Cherry, wheat, with a dry finish. The flavor is much more balanced and not overwhelmingly cherry like I remember having it previous times

Mouthfeel: Light body, medium carbonation

Overall: A good dessert beer. The wheat character isn't quite what I would like, but it overall is still pretty good. Would also prefer if it was unfiltered, maybe more like a cherry hefeweizen. (580 characters)

I was never a beer drinker until my boyfriend introduced me to Cherry Wheat. This is the best beer I've ever tasted! I would say that compared to other beers that this has a very smooth taste with subtle hints of summer and an introduction to fall all mixed into one. It smells fruity but still has that distinctive smell of beer with the presence of hops giving it a rustic feel. I am now hooked on Sam Adams! Shame on me for not getting more interested in beer in college! (474 characters)

Brought by friends on Novemer 3rd, 2013. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Nonic, served cool.

Appearance: Hazy Honey amber with a froth 1 finger offwhite head.

Aroma: Cherries, wheat.

Mouthfeel: solid medium, decent carbonation.

Taste: Cherry flavor is not overdone nor is it artificial. Wheat thickness with a black cherry top.

overall: not something I would choose on my own but not a bad beer. (402 characters)

A: Very cloudy orange, off-white head that leaves a very thin layer on the surface. Surprisingly lasting lacing.

S: Strong sweet and tart cherry, even a bit of orange in there too. Very fruity.

T: Wow, huge cherry flavor, very sweet. I'd almost say they added grenadine. A backbone of pleasant breadiness. The flavors are pleasant in theory, but might come across too strongly for some.

M: Refreshing, but possibly too bloating from the carbonation.

O: They bring the cherry, now it's up to you to accept the consequences. (526 characters)

A-Hazy dark gold color with a ok head that went down quickly and left some lace as the beer went down
S-could smell the smell of cherries from a distance, and the wheat was in the background
T-cherry had a tart taste that did not leave any taste in the aftertaste or the finish
M- medium body and carbonation
O- was impressed until the taste, it was nothing after the beer went down. (383 characters)

Tastes and smells like horrible cough syrup. Drain poor. Worst beer I've had in quite some time. Not worth the money to try. Harsh fake cherry flavors, and nose.
I have liked most of Sammy's offerings this year but this is a total fail. Jim Koch, must not have tasted this one as it came out of the brewery, because it's completely undrinkable. (345 characters)

Pours a light amber with a nice head and lasting lacing. Wonderful nose of cherry. Light medium body with a smooth feel. Low average carbonation. Crisp with a good burst of cherry flavor. Lightly hopped as it should be. My SA favorite and one of the reasons I started homebrewing. I've been drinking this beer since 1995. When you get a good bottle (very crisp finish and tart cherry flavor), this one is hard to beat. However, over the years, they have had quality problems. The last few years they have been more consistent. (526 characters)

Purchased at the local Twin Liquors. Poured in to a Sam Adams perfect pint. "Best by" date of Nov. 2013.

A - Hazy golden color with two fingers of head that quickly dissipates. No lacing.

S - Cherries and honey. They were going for cherries; they got cherries. I can't knock them for that.

T/M - This is where it falls apart. Very medicinal, but not in a good way. This is cough syrup mixed with wheat ale.

O - This is drinkable, sure, but why? I don't know. I guess you'd have to ask the 19 year old Lance. This was his favorite beer. I wonder how much my taste will change in another 12 years? Hmmm.... (611 characters)

Poured into a glass mug.

A- Orange/amber color with 2 finger head that fizzles away. It looks ok.

S- Fake cherry smell, like cherry cough medicine, some alcohol. Some hops.

T- Cherry cough medicine. Nasty! Very harsh taste.

M- Medium body and good carbonation. But the taste really makes this beer not at all refreshing or crisp.

Drinkability- Horrible, I couldn't get past a few sips. Drain Pour.

O- Overall, this is a bad beer. The taste is of cherry cough medicine. I don't recommend this beer at all. (511 characters)

Overall: An old time favorite and one that I find refreshing. I try to get a six of this a year. The cherries are present but never too sweet. One of Sam's better classic beers. (401 characters)

Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is Probably a Beer you are either going to Really Like,or Pour down the sink because you Can't drink it,There is not much of a Middle Ground with this beer,if you REALLY like Cherries, and enjoy Fruit Beers & Ales, then chances are you will like this Beer a LOT,I Happen to think it is a wonderful Beer,a Very well Crafted Beer to be sure~ this Beer looks quite nice when poured,a somewhat semi Amber/Golden Hue,with a very Lively Carbonation & Fluffy head, and quite a good amount of Lacing for a wheat Beer, you just can tell that the Brewer took their time with this beer~as good as it looks,it is the Smell, that Cherry Aroma that really Floored me the first time I had this Beer,as soon as I popped the top on a 12oz Bottle of Cherry Wheat, that sweet Cherry aroma just filled the room, very pronounced 4 sure!~Taste,While this Beer Certainly has a Sweet Edge up front mixed with a bit of Grainy,Malty flavor,it has a very Dry,Tart Cherry Finish, that to me is Very Nice Indeed!
As Much as I like this Beer,I really can not see drinking it all Night, and though I do not think it is Overly sweet for the type of Beer it is,after 2 or 3 I can see the sweetness Catching up & turning a Bit Syrup like,Not what I would call a Session Beer @ all,but a GR8 Fruit Beer overall~
As far as Food Pairings, perhaps would be Nice with some block cheese and Crackers,Grapes,Cherries [Of Course],Other Crisp Fruits Like Apples or Pears,Goes very Nice with a Slice of Cherry Pie,Cheers and Peace2All:) (1,506 characters)

Taste: Cherry taste is apparent right away and is very sweet.

Mouthfeel: Smooth feel with some burning on the tongue.

Overall: A nice relaxing beer to have. Enjoyable with a cherry taste. (389 characters)

(Served in a Sam Adams glass)
A- This beer pours a hazy orange body with a racing carbonation supporting a thin film of snow white.

S- the bright full aroma of linden’s cherry cough drops dominates the aroma with no malt coming through at all.

T- The cherry flavor is chemical and has a medicinal bitterness to it with some corn DMS that lingers in a dry finish. There is also and artificial cherry flavor that hangs on long after each sip aswell.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel finishes with a tight fizz.

O- The artificial cherry flavor and strong corn flavor make it hard to drink and any other flavors are well hidden underneath those. (647 characters)

A: Cloudy: The wheat portion I am assuming. Foamy, one finger head. Color is golden orange.

S: Cherry overpowers the wheat scents into submission. Sweet. I smell many different sugars. I feel like I am smelling a bottle of grenadine.

T: Not what I expected at all. Cherry completely overpowers any semblance of beer throughout. Where is the wheat portion of the beer? I have had many different wheat and fruit combinations, but this is one of the worst in that the cherry isn't even good. It tastes like someone accidently dropped a shirley temple into my Leine Sunset Wheat.

M: Beer is simply smooth. The mouthfeel is great... even if the taste is not.

O: Not impressed. Many Samuel Adam's beers have earned my respects. This is not one of them. Granted, the sweetness will be loved by many drinkers... just not this one. (830 characters)

Thanks, Erik. Split a bottle because I expected some sweetness from this thing. Poured into a wine glass from a 12oz bottle.

Pours a sunny, slightly deep amber color, complete with about two fingers worth of head. Nothing's too unfiltered with this thing, even with the alleged addition of wheat. Relatively clear, with enough bubbles gathering towards the top. Looks actually pretty lively, although I'd never expect any cherry or wheat in this thing simply by looking at it.

The aroma is where things start to get strange. Immediately, you're pelted with an enormous candied, slightly medicinal aroma that resembles a combination of cherry taffy, maraschino cherries, and, as I later realized, the chemical-y properties of Twizzlers. Can't make any grains, malts, wheat, or hops underneath this concoction. Syrupy sweet, with strange chemical candied odors. This gets progressively worse as it warms up.

The flavor is a little better, although definitely far too medicinal and candied for my own patience. There's an initial rush of grainy flavors, as well as slight thickness imparted by the wheat malts, but it soon gets a little thinned and follows with the enormous cherry flavor - this time only slightly medicinal. At first, it actually reminds me of plump, black cherries, which doesn't work too well with the thinned wheat body of the beer, but strangely quite well on its own. The cherry flavor does get progressively more medicinal and gag-inducing as it warms up, however, and manages to obfuscate the initial wheat and grain crispness that was holding the fort well. I honestly found it tough to stomach over 6oz of this.

I honestly cannot understand the widespread appeal of this. In the same manner of Twizzlers and cough syrup, this is far to sweet and cloying under longterm consumption. There's not much balance to this, and while this *could* be refreshing, it would have to be pounded to avoid the cloying sweetness from creeping up to room temperature. Really weird stuff - I actually love cherries (and krieks, even those that are sweetened), but rather than being dessert-like or robust, this tastes unusually artificial and candied. I might as well get a cheap wheat beer and fill it with homemade cherry syrup (in the same vein of Berliner Weisses). I'm starting to wonder by now if ANY wheat beer infused with fruit flavoring is worth my time. We shall see, until my palate gives up. (2,415 characters)
