The Escape Route is a decent beer...I would think better for summer than late winter/spring...nevertheless, the beer pours a nice golden color with thin white head that is leaving a lace. The scent has a lemon citrus zing. The taste is balanced nicely hints of citrus with touches of spice...very refreshing....something to kick the taste buds. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a very drinkable beer.

Pours a decent fizzy slight creamy 1/2 finger head, a little small but retains well, decent lacing, hazy slight yeast sediment lighter peach orange colored.

Nose is actually kinda meh, an herbal like hop jumps out front, mild mossy grassy earthy note too, a hint of a sweet caramel note, touch grainy. Almost alt-beer like not really Kolsch.

Taste starts with grainy malts, a little toasty and a little corn stalk like, but light. Then herbal hops, little mossy and earthy, mild bitterness. Soft feel at least, almost lager like soft and crisp which is at least one good thing from the Kolsch. Finish is fairly dry but a little sticky, crisp but soft and a little mineral note, mild fruity flavor too, malt juice, and a little herbal earthy hop.

Mouth is softer and a bit lighter bod, decent carb, fluffy carb.

Overall meh, not one of Sam Adam's best beers, just a little Kolsch like notes, hops are not quite where they should be for a Kolsch, malts are OK at least, and it has a nice soft slight crisp feel.

Towering head, good stickage with the lacing. Hazed out golden hue, why does unfiltered have to mean hazed? This is not a Zwickelbier. Crisp snappy grain in the nose and on the palate. Yeasty with bready overtones. Herbal hopping all around, sort of the trademark of most of their beers right?

Aside from the unnecessary haze this is a very crushable brew, give me a liter mug of this now!

12 oz bottle...with best before dating notched onto the side of the label.

Pours near clear, under an eggshell cap.

Malty nose.

More moderate malt on the plate with lime and drying, crisp and clear hops. Meh nothing special going on here. But could this one working in a pinch as a nice warm day sessioner...

Appearance: high carbonation, 1/2 inch head, hazy, gold in color

Smell: wheat and honey

Taste: honey, orange, and cracker dominate

Mouthfeel: sweet, light body, high carbonation

Overall: A nice, sessionable, and clean kolsch. Feels like a good summer brew. Could easily put away several of these.

Poured from a bottle into a Sam Adams glass.

Appearance: Yellow with a thin white head, no lacing on the glass.

Smell: Grassy earthy notes with a hint of cloves.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste of wheat, malt, hops, some hints of cloves and citrus.

Overall: Another good brew from Samuel Adams.

12 oz bottle at fridge temp poured into a pint glass. Best before July 2014

Pours a very clear pale golden color. About a fingers worth of white. Decent looking lacing and head retention, lots of streaming carbonation.

Smells more like a lager than anything which I suppose is what a kolsch is going for. Minerals, just slightly metallic, hints of cereal like grains.

Very similar to the aroma, starts off very bright and crisp. mineral water, like you would find in a lager, just a bit of grain, finishes with the slightest fruity ester that let's you know your still drinking an ale.

Super crisp, high amount of carbonation, light bodied, and refreshing. A super drinkable, sessionable beer.

Pretty spot on to style, which it doesn't surprise me that this would be a style Sam Adams can nail. I'd drink this again if I found it dirt cheap for a sizer, preferably in the summer.

Poured into becker pint glass; my stange is back at school.
Golden yellow, clear, with a big fluffy white head that fades after a few minutes into a nice ring of foam.
Smells like a kolsch; slightly vinous, crackery malt, crisp and clean. Relatively simple.
Taste is the same; crisp, clean cracker malt, with crisp vinous flavors and light fruitiness, and a hint of belgian-like yeasty bitterness.
Mouthfeel is light and crisp.
Overall, I've had better but this is a nice kolsch. It has that "generic" malt flavor that seems to plague lots of SA's beers, but it's still tasty.
