Pouring a hazy golden hay color with a fluffy white head, Escape Route has a slightly earthy odor to the head. Below the initial hit, aromas of lemon, yeast, honey, flowers, and a hint of spice, maybe coriander. The nose has a pleasant simpleness to it, never really making any smell more pronounced than just hinting.

On the palate, the citrus jumps up to the front giving notes of lemon and orange, the coriander style note is a little more prevalent, and an almost hoppy kind of herb touches in. The yeasty notes grow, especially on the finish giving it a refreshing clean kind of lemony-yeast finish. Overall, the light body and refreshing flavors keep it a simple and pleasant brew to quaff, even if not complex.

Poured from bottle into pilsner glass. Very pale golden orange with soapy white head, two fizzy fingers worth. The head dissipates quickly, tiny bit of lacing, with a little cap. Steady carbonation through out the session. It takes a little while to peg the aroma: I've settled on lemon yeast. A small bit of spice. Taste is subtle, tart fruit with a slightly bitter finish. Everything about this brew is slight. Inoffensive, sessionable, but not something I'd buy on its own.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, golden/straw color with a thin lacing of white-colored head that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Very aromatic with strong notes of citrus, such as lemon, orange and grapefruit, intermingled with notes of toasted malt, strong notes of yeast, bubblegum, coriander and sage.

Taste: Quite good! Strong flavors of toasted malt up front, imparting notes of cereal, or freshly toasted white bread, flowed by some citrus flavors, caramel-like sweetness, some spices such as coriander, black pepper and sage, as well as some floral notes of heather, clover and a touch of piney hops.

Mouthfeel: Creamy actually, with very little carbonation. With an ABV of 5.0%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a very enjoyable session beer. Good flavors of malt and citrus and sweetness, with a very pleasant mouthfeel. I’d certainly get it again.

Poured from the bottle into a Gaffel stange.

Deep cloudy tangerine orange, to a murky yellow. Nice sized and slow rising carbonation, quite plentiful actually, arriving to a real big bright white and frothy head, with lots of soapy big laced bubbles as it settles and large retention.

Interesting aroma. Hints of lime and fruit with a nice character, but a sticky yeast quality and pasty sense slightly. Light hints of white grape a bit with not much bready character. Not too bad.

Palate is surprisingly odd. A decent mouthfeel but with a weird and somewhat empty taste. Hints of mushy grapefruit juice and perhaps a bit of lime. Not particularly hinting of classic malt style. A strange twinge of metals which works nicely in the grapefruit angle. This seem odd but comes with some surprising appeal, but is really missing some of that classic bakery density, but comes with a sort of flattened density.

A decent drinkable beer, but other than a good fruity aroma this really doesn't remind me of a Kolsch but of a very unique beer at least.
