Poured into a 13 oz tulip, best before August. Pours a dark yellow, with a one inch white head that leaves behind some nice lace.

Smell is pineapple, grapefruit, biscuit, and lemon.

Taste follows, pineapple and other citrus flavors, with some caramel that I didn't get from the nose.

Body is light, plenty of life, a little dry, and easy drinking.

Over all this pretty good, but surprised this won the contest.

Pours a light honey color, clear, with very little of a head that disappears. I didn't get much in the way of a smell except for some lemon, a hint of yeast, and a little alcohol. Its a clean tasting beer, very refreshing, but I'm not getting any tried and true IPA elements. The pineapple taste is subtle - more like a lemon-pineapple (heavier on the lemon side). There's a bit of a yeasty funk that comes through on the back end of the taste; minerals, too (which reminds me, unfortunately, of drinking pineapple juice from concentrate out of a can, and not fresh pineapple juice). The beer is not sweet, which I was afraid it would be, and it's not syrupy, either. The carbonation is more subtle, too, than expected. Overall, a refreshing, clean, mildly citrusy beer.

Amber dark orange. Small head cap dwindles and dwindles.

Peachy sweet malts with pale barley grain and bruised pineapple notes. Light hops. Too fruity for a true IPA.

Bitter hops that have an aged pine flavor. Hints of citrus. Not much pineapple, at all. Pale ale mildness. A tad spicy. Odd finish with leafy astringency.

Spicy carbonation. Body seems a little sticky. Blah.

I poured this beer into a ipa glass, it has a hazy gold color body with a small head to it. The smell has a sweet aroma coming off of it, of pineapple and a little hop. The taste starts off a little sweet then the hops come in(nothing stands out) then a little malt on the back of the tongue. Mouthfeel is good and overall I think it is a good beer.

A: Pours an orange/amber color with a fingers worth of head that fades down to a small cap

S: Pineapple and some fruitiness up front, with a hint of citrus. Maltiness plays a bit of a heavy hand

T: A bit of pineapple and fruitiness, followed by some of the citrus. Maltiness comes in and takes over little. Finishes with some light fruitiness as well as the maltiness

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: Aside from the pineapple to start the nose and taste, this brew doesn't really live up to the name. Definitely much more like an APA than an IPA, especially with the malt/hop ratio and the lack of bitterness. Probably the dud of the 3 longshot brews for 2014

Another Sam Adams Long Shot home brewer competition beer, Pineapple IPA why not? I like IPA and I love the local Rivertowne Pineapple beer. Appears copper with some chill haze on my glass white head fine speckled lacing left behind. Aromatics offer up some pineapple flesh and hop additions, can't say I'm picking up on any specific hop varieties. Generic hop flavor, tart juicy pineapple juice added pretty lackluster base IPA which weakens the overall experience, I'm getting muddled hop leaf notes...mild citrus and that's about it. I can't even pick out the pineapple completely, if it was a blind tasting I highly doubt I could figure out the fruity character I'm getting. Mouthfeel, is solid thru and thru not cloying a bit sweet for an IPA I would enjoy a bit of a drier finish, carbonation weighs heavy and each sip gets a bit more hard to endure. Medium to light bodied overall, on the feel and texture slightly slick hop oils but not as dank and resinous as my favorite IPA offerings. Overall, Sam Adams struggles with IPAs, this version is no different and I can't promise you that the pineapple did anything to make this a better beer.

Pours a brilliant golden copper with a frothy, dense cream head that slowly dissipates, leaving sheets of lacing.

Grain, floral hops, muted grapefruit, and pineapple form the aroma. Notes of resin and grass add complexity, but grain seems to dominate.

Flavor reveals fairly sweet pineapple throughout. The backbone is grainy malt, with pilsner characteristics reminiscent of a cheap light lager. Muted citrus is present, and the finish is a bit bitter.

Body and carbonation are moderate.

Tates like a cheap lager with a touch of pineapple sweetness. Fairly disappointed in this one. I really expected more hop flavoring. The malt is not pleasant.

Enjoy by August 2014, so fairly fresh.
Pours a smaller fizzy foamy head covering that fades semi quickly, mostly clear honey orange color.

NOse brings a little grassy earthy herbal hop character, very earthy almost phosophorus like note, herbal mossy hops, mild sweet candy malt base, pineapple is really only like the skin or hair of the pineapple not really a fruity aroma.

Taste brings more sweet malts at first, a little candy malt, hint toffee like. Then more herbal hops, earthy as well, mossy, little forest floor chewy herbal notes, black tea, etc. Pineapple is also light again more of the skin and hairs (those little strands coming from the dimples in it). Mild fruity quality that seems more from the yeast than from the pineapple or hops, just a touch of citrus, a very faint tropical fruit note, and a weird yeasty thing that probably should have been removed, like a phosphorus kinda note. Finish is drier and fair bitterness, bit more herbal mossy earthy hops, that's about it.

Mouth is med bod, hint syrupy like feel, nice carb.

Overall either I got a bad bottle or this beer is nothing of what it should be. Far from what should be winning the Longshot, and very lacking in any tropical notes other than faint pineapple skin and hair, and just a touch of a generic tropical fruit note. On top of that the hops I do get, the herbal earthy ones, wouldn't mix well with the fruit either.
