Poured into a 16 oz snifter. Pours a slick black with a two inch brown head, that leaves behind plenty of lace.
Smell is grainy oats, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, molasses, and toffee.
Taste follows the nose beautifully, maybe a little roastier than the nose would have you think, really nice.
Body is medium, plenty of carbonation, a smidge dry as it should be, and drinks easy, but appears larger than 7.2%.
Overall this is really nice, well done!

Jet black in color with an inch thick tightly packed khaki colored head. Impenetrable to light. Good head retention. Aroma of dark roasted barley, coffee, and chocolate. Bitter taste of dark roasted barley blends well with pine like hops. There's a bit of sweetness that comes out in that is similar to a mocha type of taste that comes out in the back of the palate. The mouth is creamy and slightly oily.

Beautiful dark body pitch black, light tan head looks great in my glass. Big light cocoa colored head flowing full on cloud texture, with light speckled lacing left behind. Aroma has some caramel notes, mild dark chocolate notes, hint of coffee accents. Flavor creamy dark chocolate, hint of butterscotch with dark fruit notes...plum and raisin finish. Dry finish dark almost charcoal dark roasted malt character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, dry finish a bit high on carbonation. Overall, I'm liking it but not as much as my initial gut number score.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours pitch black, opaque in the glass with a thin light brown head with decent retention and light lacing. Nice aroma of dark toasted malt, vanilla, hints of chocolate and lactose. Flavor is sweet dark toasted malt, chocolate, hints of vanilla and coffee. An interesting dark molasses flavor develops in the finish which is dominated by dark sweet malt and a hint of hop bitterness. Nice creamy body. A nicely balanced and flavorful stout. I don't know if oats were used in this, but the body and flavor are positively reminiscent of oatmeal stouts. Nicely done. I enjoy this series every year.
