Pale hazy gold, thin ring of white foam and a patchy skim across the top.

Slight smoke in the aroma, mellow and woody.

Taste is lightly crackery, mild wheat, lightly tart, mild smoke. It's ok, a little bland. Light bodied, the carbonation ebbs away fairly quickly. Overall it was worth a try, but a little too bland.

Part of the 2013 Samuel Adams LongShot 6-Pack - $9.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Grätzer grats out a yellow-hued body, just a bit of haziness to it, and a smallish, though sustained, white head.

Smell: A shy but noted smokiness overlaying the malted wheat given a small share of spiced grains. A little supportive lemon and savory herb notes. It's subtle, but like tits, smoked malts are timeless, guys.

Taste: Fastly sweetish wheat malts thinned by an inclusion of still mineral water. Light lemon, a fleeting hint of burley tobacco, and, then, the gentle smokiness. Reasonably light bitterness and a character seeming of continental hops. Things slacken on the back half, leaving some mild pilsnery maltiness on the drying, soft finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body, though some creaminess noted from the wheat. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Restrained but quaint, a nice, light smoked ale.

Hazy wheaty off-yellow color with an initial crown of white. The head fell off and a glaze of foam remains on top.

Rubbery smoke, Germanesque wheat malt, and a wee bit of spice from the Saaz. Somewhat medicinal, but nice. Quaint aromas that don't take it too far. Simple.

Wet smokiness, tamed by the wheat malts, which factor in nicely. Saaz hop prickle, accentuated by clove esters. Maybe a hint of backing lemon. Somewhat sweet. Finishes with faint tartness, like white grape skins. Saaz hop, also, helps the release. Smoke really builds as the beer warms. Better dimension in the smoke than the nose could capture. No longer overly medicinal.

Powdery carb dries up a lighter body. Drinkability is great.

A reliable Grätzer. Good summertime enjoyment drinking.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Hazy straw color. White head with a film of retention. Random lines of lacing, spread out.

Aroma: Smoked meats, malts.

Taste: A grainy, sweet malt beginning, then hammered by smoked meats. A pleasant, grilled cook-out kind of smoke.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light in body.

Overall: Pleasantly surprised by this one.

LOOK: Pours a pale straw color with a chill haze. White head forms and recedes to a fine layer.

AROMA: Lemon citrus and hints of tobacco. Also a noticeable wisp of smoke. Faint banana like fruitiness and certainly becoming more smokey as it warms.

TASTE: Flavors of wheat, lemon, smoke and clove all play together in a refreshing manner. Reminds me of a good witbier, just smoked. There is a faint spice note and complimentary tartness.

FEEL: Light to medium bodied ale sporting a crisp carbonation. Cleaner finish though some smoke and citrus lingers on. Fairly dry feel with a dry clove spice.

OVERALL: An impressive smoked wheat beer and deserving of its Longshot achievement. This is a great summer drink, but I could always go for one of these. Really good stuff.

Appearance: Orangish yellow. Decent lace remains.
Smell: Smoked, slightly skunky lemon.
Taste: Smoked, lemon, maybe biscuit.

This was underwhelming. The second underwhelmer out of this year's Longshot batch. The smokey character is certainly decent and improves with warmth. Other than that, both smell and taste is lemon and hint of biscuit. I wouldn't get it again.

Pours a hazy lemon yellow with a thick, creamy ivory head that slowly dissipates, leaving sheets of lacing.

Aroma is grainy and floral, with a touch of spice and light smoke.

Flavor reveals more smoke dominance, with lightly fruity and herbal hop character complementing a grainy malt backbone. It's very light and refreshing.

Body is moderate to a touch thin, with moderate carbonation.

Interesting brew. Perfect for a hot day, but the smoke adds some complexity. Would be nice with bbq.

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a very light mostly clear, and slightly cloudy/hazy golden color. Has a nice white, fluffy head that is well over an inch thick when first poured. Starts to slightly settle quickly and shrinks to about 2/3 of an inch 3 minutes or so after first being poured. Eventually settles to a good solid 1/4 inch head with good retention. Decent lacing Aromas of wheat and some smoked malt is present along with a hint of banana and hints of lemony citrus. Has a pale, slightly smoked, bready malt sweetness upfront that gives way to a lemon citrus zest and a hint of banana and just a slight touch of green apple tart. Rounded out with a very mild hint of hop bitterness. has a somewhat dry and sour finish. An interesting flavor profile to be sure. goo balance of flavors too. Certainly not what I expected from a smoked beer. Has a crisp, but mostly smooth and frothy, light to medium bodied mouthfeel with light to moderate carbonation. Has good drinkability, especially on a very warm and humid spring night here in Cleveland!
