Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a beer glass.
Appearance: Deep golden hue, bordering on amber. Moderately heavy carbonation is visible. Head is a cream or off-toffee color, and maintains at about a centimeter. Wispy lacing as the head recedes.
Smell: Light buttery tone to the mix. Gentle toffee-type malt with a marginally more aggressive hop profile. Almost smells like a Belgian brew. Not too overpowering, not too shallow. Just a touch of cinnamon and carrot-cake or pumpkin-pie flavor to the nose as well.
Taste/Mouthfeel: Beer is creamy throughout the entire drink. A medium level of sweetness brought on by a sturdy malt backbone is accented here by a very floral hop profile. This is quite possibly the best-tasting Samuel Adams beer I have ever tried.
Drinkability: I think this is even better than their Boston Lager. If it were on tap locally, I'd use this as a go-to beer. Very intriguing little brew here.
Bought this on a whim this afternoon, and it REALLY hit the spot. Lots of flavor, with a normal ABV which allows for maximum enjoyment with minimum revenge later on. Excellent!

12 oz bottle poured into a nonic.
Enjoy before JUL 2014 notched on label.
A - Pouring a nice rich amber color this clear ale's steady carbonation keeps it's lively ivory head afloat for some time, leaving rings of lace on the pint as it dissipates.
S - Layers of buttery, flaky biscuit underscore a toasted malt profile that incorporates notes of dense dough into the mix, punctuated by floral, slightly spicy hops poking through faint suggestions of fruity yeast esters on the finish.
T - Toasted bread malts meet caramel sweetness in a tasty malt-forward entry on the tongue. Slightly spicy English hops add peppery notes to the back end while cooler aging post fermentation drives off the undertone of fruity yeast coming from the aroma, an otherwise nice mirror.
M - Gentle carbonation skids along the tongue in this medium-light bodied ale that finishes dry and almost more lager-like. Thoroughly malty, this beer still remains balanced with a touch of bitterness to keep it nice and drinkable.
O - Samuel Adams' Boston Ale is a simple brew that, despite faint fruity yeast esters in the nose, borders on being lager-like with it's dry and crisp finish. Easy drinking and delicious malt breadiness balanced by slightly spicy English hops makes for a nice English-style ale worthy of a pub session.
