Sampled from the 2010 Winter Classics mix pack, which has seemingly all good beers just like the fall variety pack did. I remember seeing this one for sale in larger bottles and I am glad they are bringing it to the masses. As a graphic designer I have to say I really like the label and black cap on this one, too. Now onto the beer!
A - Pours a nearly opaque blackish brown with reddish tint around the edges. There is a two finger light brown head that quickly dissipates and provides minimal lacing.
S - I can smell plenty of cocoa and malt up front and some slight earthy hops.
T - This is far sweeter than I anticipated. Starts off tasting almost like chocolate milk and then you get plenty of dark fruit in the finish. Not very hoppy, and the finish is somewhat dry.
M - The mouthfeel is surprisingly light and I am disappointed that the beer is so watery/thin.
D - Much too sweet to session but I will space them out over the course of the mix pack.
Overall, this is a decent chocolate beer. It doesn't really "wow" me in the sense of being a good bock, and if it were only thicker it would improve significantly. Not bad, though.
