Sam Adams makes a serious lager, so I’m looking forward to sampling this beer from my fridge--left behind by a party guest. I’d love to see some more stabs at craft lagers.
A: well, the color’s what you’d expect: dark chocolate. There’s a head and it fades into a thin covering with a ring around the glass.
S/T: you definitely get some chocolate malts and roasted grains/oats in the nose but the chocolate is not saccharine; it’s actually a pleasing dark cocoa taste but imagine the bitterness coming from hops.
M: Pretty good, average carbonation, leaves around a little cocoa flavor that, as a finishing taste, isn’t so elegant, but it sure is refreshing for a “chocolate” brew.
O: The master of the craft lager strikes with an interesting twist.
