12 ounce bottle from a Winter Sampler pack, poured into a pilsner glass (easier to see that way).
Has a dark caramel or mahogany look, mostly opaque but with a red tint when put in front of a light source. Thin tan head that dissipates almost entirely in a few seconds. Some visible carbonation.
Nose is heavy on cocoa, backed by roasted caramel malt and not much else. While nice, it's not particularly strong or bold, almost a little dusty.
First taste is sweeter than the aroma led me to expect, but fits the style. Sort of a milk chocolate creamy sweetness. The caramel malt fills in the body, sweetens a little more, and then the cocoa adds a little bitterness around the edges.
The milky caramely sweetness hangs around for a bit, but isn't too thick. Medium body with the carbonation adding a little buoyancy. Very easy to drink, sweet enough to be a dessert drink, but not really impressive for any reason. It's good, but doesn't stand out at all.
