I recall the biggest waste of money I ever made, a sam adams chocolate bock. I admit i mostly paid for the absurdly overly ornate bottle, but this time around just in a pack of winter beers.
Pours a "technically" perfect beer. Dark, big head, marginal retention, but all and all as good as a 5.8% beer will look. That said it's too "perfect." No art, not craft, just clear, clean and a tan head.
Warm a buttery chocolate. Almost like a chocolate cookie or something similar made with plenty of butter and not much of the vanilla tone you can get there. Really well done.
Sweet bock with chocolate, milk chocolate. Wow...I've never picked up milk chocolate in a beer before. Take your best bock, not enough body for a double bock, and add a wonderful and "real" chocolate flavor. I wanted to be a touch critical, but damn just perfect.
Velvet, smooth, creamy, and yet thin enough ultimately to drink and realize the 5.8%.
Wow...wow...wow. I'm not sure what the price of this beer should be outside of the winter pack but if they'd sell this for 10-12 for a 6er I'd be buying a case a year and aging a few. Easily the best malt dominate beer I've had in ages. Sadly sam adams makes us buy a crap like their winter lager to enjoy this wonderful beer. A huge cheers to making this beer and a huge screw you for only selling this in the sample pack.
