from the 2011 winter mixer.
12oz bottle served in a pint glass.
pours a deep amber / mahogany tone while yielding a tan finger of frothy head; middling retention, not much lacing to speak of.
chocolate obviously stars in the aroma, accompanied by some lesser, supporting notes of coffee and roastiness. maybe a hint of hops in the background.
flavor mostly follows the nose. opens sweet, good amount of chocolate, which leads to a finish that is more on the bitter side. medium-light bodied with average carbonation.
doesn't move the earth but tasty and drinkable. that seems to be my conclusion with most sam adams beers. they do a nice job, and i must admit i'm really enjoying this year's winter seasonal pack.
