From the SA Winter pack. A 12 oz. bottle with a best by date of March 2011. Poured in a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.
Color was a very dark brown, almost black, with ruby edges on it when held to the light. Nice lacing and about 1.5 fingers worth of dark tan head.
The smell was of sweet chocolate and roasted malts. These were also the primary tastes - cocoa, sweetness, malts and a very slight bitterness. Mouthfeel was smooth with a medium level of carbonation. A nice chocolate aftertaste.
I enjoy chocolate in beer and this is an excellent job of combining chocolate and a bock beer.
