Light brown and leaves a little lacing. Tha aroma is all chocolate malt and then yeast. The flavor is definitely cocoa, but the roasted malts are not forgotten. The mouthfeel is silky and lingers with the flavor of chocolate. This beer goes down really easy.

Sample: 1 bottle of original recipe and bottling from 2008
A: Very dark with ruby/garnet hints when held to light, surprisingly active internal carbonation even after 3+ years of aging
S: Cocoa powder, mild hints of fresh coffee beans, semi-sweet chocolate present but not overwhelming
T: Very smooth, mild chocolate yet complex, malty throughout finishing with pure cocoa
M: Extremely easy to drink, flavor is mild enough to not be over-powering and yet strong enough to be complex and delicious. Great chocolate aftertaste and just lingering enough.
O: Much better than the now commonplace recipe being rated under this category. Even with an abv of only 5.5% it seems to have aged well and would make an excellent dessert beer. If you truly wish to experience a chocolate bock, I certainly recommend seeking out a bottle of this original brew (though it may prove difficult).
