I bought a Sam Adams summer sampler pack with the notion that I really don't like Sam Adams winter ales so I figured I would give the Summer ales a try!

The Light was one of the best "light" beers I have had to date. Sam Adams is leaps and bounds better than Bud or Miller but I think it is in the same boat as yuengling. Yuengling makes its lights really light but Sam Adams doesn't. Sam Adams light has a very full flavor but it is very drinkable at the same time. I didn't like the smell too much but its appearance and mouth feel were decent.

I would recommend Sam Adams light to anyone who is watching their calories or people who enjoy lights but doesn't want to drink garbage like Bud or miller light. 5 more flavors to go!

The idea that these guys offer a light beer is comical, but I guess the market needs another one, so here goes... pours an orange-copper body that boasts a thick, two-finger head that does not look light.... sweet, malty bouquet; bright and a bit punchy, but still leaves a beer drinker a bit wanting.... body is sturdy, but not heavy--in fact, its lack of hops melows the mouthfeel to an actual light beer approximation--highly drinkable...the obvious absence of hops creates a vacuum--I know this isn;t supposed to be a less caloric version of the lager, but the malt doesn't bite either... pleasant, with prerequisite thinness and smoothness... did Samuel Adams have to use the silver label as a joke or a jab? as a light, I'd defer to these guys on name alone... the beer is meant for sudsing whatever carbs and grilled proteins you're eating anyway...

a- bottle poured into a pint, 3/4 inch off white head, golden brown clear coloring, decent amount of carbonation, minimal lacing.

s- very mild, malt, little sweetness.

t- mild once again, slight hop finish (which shocked me for a light beer), mostly malt, very decent.

m- has a little bit of body to it, good amount of carbonation, goes down very easily.

d- this beer was a pleasant surprise, this may be my new go to light beer, very drinkable, it's lightyears away from the usual adjunct light beers.

Once poured the thin head quickly disappears and you are left with a bright yellow/amber looking beer. There is not too much of a smell besides a faint scent of malts. The taste consists of malts, which the definitely included a fair amount of, as well as a subtle hop flavor to keep it in balance. It is not overly carbonated and is definitely drinkable.

I rarely drink light beers, but this one is definitely something I can tolerate and reminds me of a miller light with a little more taste.

Beer review # 350! Why not celebrate with this super rare beer!

;)

I was gonna wait to review a fancier or more hyped beer for this milestone, but after a long and painful day at work, this one was cold and ready to drink!

Pours a nice, clear, dark copper/brownish with a light tan head which dissipates quickly leaving no foaming and light traces of lacing in the form of dots... Attractive golden hues can be seen when looking down into the beer.

Smells of light, semi-sweet malts and light earthy hops.

The nose carries over to the taste. Highly carbonated, light bodied and light flavored. Nice drinker if you want something refreshing and easy to drink on a hot day (like today).

Very nice for a light lager!

A - Looks like a VERY slightly lighter Boston Lager. Clear solid Amber, white bubbly head. A little lacing, but not much. Can't say it looks bad.

S - Sweet caramel-like malts. Not much else there. But not unpleasant. Doesn't smell thin.

T/M - Sweet bready malts. No hops really. Carbonation is mildly biting. Nothing special.

D - This is an easy party beer. Quite drinkable.

A: Clear reddish-amber color with active carbonation with minimal white head and lacing.

S: Funny initial scent. Mild grain and floral aromas.

T&M: Very light bodied but highly carbonated. Malty sweetness but oily taste. Background metallic that has some taste that I cannot identify and do not like. Very watery and not a very good aftertaste at all.

Definitely not good. The only brew by Sam Adams that might be worse is the Hefe. Maybe I got a bad batch or something. I'll try to get another and update review later. Whew.

I will preface this review by saying I have not made a habit of drinking "light" beers, but I grabbed the summer mix pack and am trying to review them all.

A light copper color with cream-colored head that drops to a layer of foam. Looks pretty nice -- no insipid pale-straw yellow.

Smells a lot like SABL, but less powerful and a bit more biscuity malt. Still, the hops are evident, if clearly secondary.

Taste follows smell pretty much exactly. Biscuity malt up front; a bit of floral hops provides a bitter finish. It's not complicated, but this is light beer, and hey, it's also not bad. At all. Actually reminds me a bit of a british pale ale.

Mouthfeel is creamy and maybe a bit thick for a light beer? Carbonation is moderate.

Drinkability is good and if I wanted a staple stock-the-fridge beer that wasn't quite as calorie-laden as my usual heavy-hitters, this would likely be my choice.

Pours amber with a small head.

The nose reveals a green apple scent with some roasted, malty notes and a touch of hops.

On the palate, fruity notes upfront and a big caramel sweetness in the middle. It's a bit fusel on the back end with a grainy finish. Medium body and smooth carbonation.

It's drinkable, but no more so than most other lights.

12 oz bottle in a Boston Lager perfect pint. Best by Sept. '09 notched on the label.

A - Clear and very effervescent light amber with a small off-white head. Very little retention - left a ring. Surprising color for a light beer. Little lacing.

S - Dry husky straw smell with an almost undetectable caramel malt hint and a tad of hops. Sweet corn adjunct aroma.

T - Light sweet malts with a stronger roasted corn and dry straw flavor that finishes with a good balance of light hops that's dry but not bitter.

M - It's constant stream of carbonation lends to the very crisp bite the Light has. Tingly with a dry finish.

D - This light is one hell of a light beer. Despite some minor flaws, as a light beer, this is good and very drinkable. The color surprised me too. Nice solid beer!

A: Was not as light as you would think when you see the word light. It was a dark gold or amber color, good head and lacing.

S: I'm terrible at the smells, it was very hoppy from what I could tell.

T: Basically a lighter version of Boston Lager, not quite as bitter or strong. Not extremely light though.

M: Felt average, nothing special, I could use a little more carbonation for my taste.

D: Goes down easy but I'm not sure I am in love with the after taste that I got.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint.

A - Poured a light copper color, with a nice head of white foam. The head quickly gave way yo a thin spotty film. decent carbonation, very little in the way of lacing, but still a nice suprise for a "Light" beer.

S - Slightly malty, with a grainy "Macro" aroma. Slightly grassy.

T - Malty with floral hints. I also detect a slightly metallic, macro flavor. Not too bad.

MF&D - Light and crisp. Not very big on flavor, but its quite drinkable.

Appearance- Pours a fluffy white head with low retention and minimal lacing.

Smell- Biscuity and lightly sweet malts.

Taste- Light amber and german malt flavors, a pleasant wash of hops across the palate.

Mouthfeel- Crisply carbonated and light to moderate bodied.

Drinkability- Just enough flavor and body to be somewhat interesting and refreshing. Not my cup of tea, but a great gateway beer for neophytes testing the non-macrolager styles. Better than other "light" beers.

By far the best light beer ive ever had.

This beer is darker than any light beer ive seen before, a dark amber color if i must pick a color.

The smell is strong of hops

The taste is absolutely amazing. very refreshing and enjoyable, i like to savor the flavor of this malty brew.

Drinkability is up there with the best, if not the best.

I would recommend this beer be the first you try, if your new to Samuel Adams family of beers

This beer poured a nice copper, vaguely amber color with little head that rapidly dies and leaves no lacing. The nose has hints of apricot and noble hops but it is dominantly malty - it smells like a marzen. The taste begins with a rush first of carbonation with preceding almost any flavor, followed by the malt and then a modest assertion of the Noble hops. The finish is short, a little awkward, and has a slight sourness to it. This beer rates high on the drinkability scale, if only for its 4.0% ABV.

Pours a nearly clear golden color with about two inches of white medium bodied head.
Smells nicely of yeast and some flowery hops.
Taste has a very grainy taste with hops backing it up, thicker bodied than most light lagers.
Finish is crisp and refreshing, though there is not an above average after-taste, kind of grainy, but good.
Highly drinkable, but that's not out of the ordinary for this style, given its ABV I wouldn't categorize it as an above average smooth drink.

Picked up a 12oz single from the SLS in Vernal, not sure on price, but not much.

A: Nice copper color, white head about half an inch thick or so reduced to a film, excellent clarity, nothing to speak of for lacing. This is the most appealing looking light beer I've ever seen!

S: Strong grainy smell, a few hints of spicy hops, not a lot, but it definitely smells like an actual beer, not fermented corn water.

T: Light in flavors, but what is there is slightly caramel with a big of a hop bite. Really flavorful light beer. Not huge, not a lot going on, but a great low alcohol, light beer. Good flavors.

M: A little thicker than a usual light lager, but that isn't bad, quite refreshing, somewhat dry, begs for another drink.

D: Easy drinker, and enjoyable, this is a pretty great beer for what it is. I'll be buying this again.

Appearance: Pours with decent carbonation- head not too substantial. Very little lacing noted.Color is orange-gold-, a little darker than most other light lagers.
Smell: Aroma is mildly hoppy (floral) with mild caramel maltiness.
Taste: Decent hoppy bite at first that departs fairly quickly. Malts are there (grainy and a little husky) but has a thin presence. Aftertaste is a little metallic. Overall, a little more oomph than other lights in its category.
Mouthfeel: As with other lights, on the thin side.
Drinkability: Pretty drinkable for a light lager. Easy to drink.

Overall, a notch better than other light lagers. This would be one of my choices (along with Yuengling light) as a go-to light lager.

A-It's got a nice brown color to it. It actually looks similar to the Boston Lager.

S- It's got a nice scent to it.

T- Considering that it's a light beer it's got a nice flavor to it. Got some nice taste of yeast and hops and it doesnt go overboard with it.

M-It's got a nice clean finish to it and it doesn't leave an aftertaste.

D-It's a fine beer to drink without worrying about the extra calories.

I love Sam Adams as you probably know if you read my previous reviews and this is no exception. I like this beer a lot and I am not really into light beers. It's like the diet pepsi of beers.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsener glass.

Pours an amber orange color. Three fingers of creamy foam that leaves behind gobs of sticky lacing. Not bad.

Smells like pretty much every other light lager. Better than an adjunct lager, but not by much. Toasted malt and grains, but not much of either. I guess you could say there's a hop aroma.

Very underwhelming flavor, much like the aroma. There's not much flavor at all, except for a grainy aftertaste. Watery more than anything else. Not bad, but not good, either.

Very light body. Thin and watery texture. It would be easy to pound these, but it just doesn't taste very good. Gets bumped up to a 3.5 because it doesn't give that awful light lager recoil feel.

Part of Sam Adams Summer Pack.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Pilsner glass.

Appearance: Rich gold with decent head. Very nice appearance for a light beer.

Smell: Grainy malts and slight noble hops.

Taste: Sweet grains with minimal hop presence. "Beer" aftertaste.

Feel: High carbonation, relatively light body but heavier than normal for style.

Drinkability: Very easy to drink but not exciting.

Obviously better than other light beers, but since I view this as a pointless category, I compare this versus the grand spectrum of pale lagers.

First off lets be clear i have yet to find a light beer that doesn't taste like every other light beer. I don't like light beer, but it came with the sampler and I'm a fan of Samuel Adams. Pours a darker color than any other light beer I've seen i recent memory. Smells and tastes very lightly of malty goodness. Very light mouth feel and crisp with a clean finish surprisingly drinkable. Quite surprised by this beer very light with more flavor than most, if i drank light beer this is probably what i would pick up.

A - darkest light beer I have ever seen.

S - grain and metallic notes

T - grain and metallic notes (what causes this?). The background has a smooth creamy taste which I really enjoy.

M - decently carbonated and a very thin body

D - I guess if I ever went on a diet this beer would be up for consideration. Glad to try but doubt I will ever buy it.
