Two 12oz bottles poured into a large Hefe glass producing a nice look. Pale yellow body, not as hazy as your standard Hefe. Decent head, though not as thick as one would expect from the style.
Aroma does not have any of the classic Hefeweizen elements which make me love the nose of the style. No spice, no banana, no sweetness. Weak nose, detectable initially from the pour though completely gone very quickly. The one thing that can be discerned is weak hops.
The flavor confirms what the aroma implied: this is no Hefeweizen. American Pale Wheat Ale is a correct classification, though unfortunately this is not very good even for that. Some hops and a pale watery wheat backing. I almost get the sense that the classic Hefe flavors are there, they are just so weak and muddled that the (in my opinion) innaproporate hops cover up what isn't much to speak of in the first place.
Overall a poor effort from Boston Beer, whom I have a lot of respect and expectations for. Unfortunate.
