Pours the color of Black coffee with very little head and not much lacing to speak of.

Smells of sweet, coffee, and black licorice.

The first things that hits me as i sip is, again, coffee, with a touch of sweet cream. The aftertaste is again coffee.

Mouthfeel leaves a little to be desired...not quite as silky smooth as the other sweet stouts I've had.

Overall, this is a pretty good effort for BBC, and when $$$ is tight, I will go with this again, but when I've got the couple of extra bucks in my pocket, I'll get the upgrade.

If you ask my boy Jones, he'll tell you that I call Samuel Adams Cream Stout the "Holy Grail of Beers". I started drinking this beer several years ago - myself and a good buddy started "dabbling" into the darker beers over ten years ago, and stumbled (pardon the pun) onto this beer, and have been enjoying it ever since. Very dark in color, wonderful smell, very smooth drinking, with that chocolaty finish that I like...with a slight bit of a bite. I would classify this beer as my all time favorite. If you are a "stout" beer drinker, this is a must try...I think my boy Jones just finished up the last one he had - looks like we'll be searchin' for more soon!

12 oz. bottle, with the label notched at best before July 2014. Another new stout to me from Samuel Adams, acquired as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's; expectations are moderate.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a dark mahogany brown with some hints of ruby red near the edges of the glass when held to the light. Two fingers of bubbly frothy tan head. Leaves behind some fluffy scattered lacing. Looks good.

S - The smell is comprised of some tart lactose sweetness, reminiscent of a tart cherries at times, chocolate malt, mild roastiness, & notes of nuttiness in the background.

T - Taste follows the nose - cream, roasty chocolate, and a lactic tartness that brings to mind sour cherries. A subdued dry bready yeastiness on the finish there also, giving it a very "beery" sort of taste, if you know what I'm sayin.

M - Feel is smooth, creamy, and soft. Light bodied with good carb.

Overall, an enjoyable, but average stout offering from Samuel Adams at best. Well built and flavored for being such a low abv beer, and it is definitely drinkable / sessionable. I would have it again, but it's not worth seeking out.

Another one of those beers that I just never reviewed. Seems like a good time, lazy Saturday afternoon, working around the house, watching the Bruins game, etc. Enjoy before Jun 2014, so fairly fresh.

Pours a dark mocha colored fizzy head that hits a finger before fading back fairly slowly, decent lines of lacing, very dark black beer with a faint hint of light sneaking through the bottom at the thin part of the glass. Actually, the head seems to stick around forever.

Nose brings a little roast, little coffee, nice chocolatey with a little mocha and creamy milk chocolate, mild dry cocoa dust with a little biscuity like malt brings a malted milk ball like aroma, dried lactose and fair creamy aroma, hint of caramel too, more dried candy bar.

Taste brings more dark malts, a little roasty without being too overly roasted, hint of coffee with the roast, and a mild very slight acrid roasty flavor. Then chocolate, not a ton but enough, creamy milk chocolate with a little cocoa powder and again that malted milk ball, into a creamy but dry lactose like creamy flavor but not quite sure if it's actual lactose, probably not. Then a hint of caramel and mild bitter earthy hops on the back end round off the flavor. Finish is dry but a little sticky, more earthy bitterness, little more roast and chocolate.

Mouth is med bod fairly creamy, nice carb.

Overall pretty good actaully, surprising that it's been around this long and still a nice beer. It doesn't hit a homerun, but for an easy drinking cream stout there isn't really anything wrong with it.
