Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance –Poured a mahogany colored brew with a three finger cream colored head. The head has large carbonation bubbles that pop over time , with the head fading to give a medium level of lacing.
Smell-The aroma is largest of caramel and some fruit aromas of prune and plum. Mixed with these is a good dose of roasted malt and chocolate as well as a spicy aroma of cinnamon and ginger.
Taste – The flavor starts out heavily of some caramel and roasted malt flavors. A chocolate and light plum flavor then come to the tongue. Up to this point the brew is very malty and sweet. The cinnamon and ginger flavors that were hinted at in the nose, come to the taste at the end though, where they mingle with the sweet and malty flavors , taming them to some extent, and in the end leaving a nice aftertaste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the slightly creamier side with a carbonation level that is just below average. Both are nice for the malty and sweet flavors of the brew as well as allow the lighter spice flavors that come to the tongue at the end to be fully appreciated.
Overall- A tasty winter warmer. Good roasted and sweet flavors mixed with a light but very pleasant spice. Another good one from Sam Adams.

12 oz. bottle poured into tulip glass. Pours a rich dark brown, almost black with ruby undertones. A medium sized tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a lot of thin lacing.
Smell is heavy in caramel and cocoa, a lot of citrus as well dark fruits, and a faint amount of cinnamon and ginger.
Taste is sweet chocolate, caramel, and toffee malts up front. The spices come through, especially towards the finish which all together makes for a really nice flavor profile front to back as the chocolate remains strong throughout. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy.
Overall, a really good, balanced winter warmer, always worth having a few each year.
