Appearance: Cranberry Lambic pours the color of a grapefruit: not quite orange and not quite red, which I guess means it's pink. Regardless of the exact color, it's pleasing to the eye.
Smell: The aroma is not very potent, but cranberries are there. It's ever-so-mildly tart smelling.
Taste: There is cranberry flavor, but it's relatively weak. This is supposedly brewed using wheat, but that is not in the foreground either. There really isn't any flavor that stands out. The flavors that are present get lost in the shuffle and sort of blend together into nothing. This translates into a not very sweet, not very tart, just kind of bland beer. Still, the cranberry taste is pleasant enough and not offensive in any way.
Mouthfeel: Cranberry Lambic is relatively light-bodied and thin, as well as slick and wet.
Drinkability: Having a few per holiday season would be enjoyable, but this is not a session beer.
Notes: Oh Sam Adams Cranberry Lambic, why do people despise you so? I'm of the opinion that while it's no great beer, there are few reasons to hate Cranberry Lambic. I like cranberries, so I perosnally enjoyed drinking it. Maybe people dislike the name, since this beer is not really a lambic at all. In that way, it's similar to another Sam Adams fruit beer, Blackberry Witbier. Both are decent brews that have misleading names, but that's a minor grievance where I'm concerned.
I can't help but compare this beer to a similar cranberry beer, New Glarus Cran-bic Ale. While Cran-bic is superior in every way, Cranberry Lambic is still a good choice for anyone seeking a mild, crowd-pleasing fruit beer for the holidays.
