A - Deeper brown with a lot dark ruby hues. Large frothy, creamy, thickish/dense, light cafe colored head. Decent retention with a nice layer of lace.
S - Pretty typical porter aroma. Caramel and roasted malt with a good amount of earthiness. Good level of chocolate some nuttiness and spice. Burnt molasses is also fairly strong.
T - Malt dominates with burnt caramel, toasted bread, nut, and slightly burnt malt. Spicy and earthy flavors also pretty strong. Chocolate and coffee only very faint. Hints of tart dark fruit. Earthy and spice malt is pretty dominant.
M - Medium toward fuller body with average carbonation. Quite smooth and creamy.
D - Goes down easy and is a nice beer to drink. Nothing special but enjoyable.
Notes: In 2010 Winter Pack. Nice porter, but nothing really special. Earthy, nutty and spicy malt is pretty strong. Body is pretty nice. I enjoyed this, and it is a good addition to the Winter Pack, but it isn't amazing.

This beer is 3.5 years old...
Pours an opaque deep brown with a frothy tan head that lingers.
Aroma is comprised of chocolate, raisins, prunes, and figs.
Oxidation has set in and done this brew some good. Notes of raisins, prunes, and plums emerge in the flavor. There's a touch of diacetyl. The chocolate malt backbone is still strong, with a lightly bitter finish. Nutty notes weave throughout. Floral hops accent the aftertaste.
Body is a touch full, with modest carbonation and light alcohol warmth.
Nice beer that has some shelf life. I'm sure the fruity notes are due to age.
