Pours very dark brown, clear, with ruby highlights around the edges with about a half-inch tan head retaining well.
Aroma is malty, with notes of roasted malt, coffee grounds ,caramel, and maybe a hint of chocolate.
Flavor is roasted malts, with hints of coffee and dark chocolate. Somewhat grainy in the finish, with a distinctive burnt character. No clearly evident hop contribution.
Medium body, with medium-to-high carbonation. It may just be this sample, but the carbonation has a little too much bite for a porter. Also, I think a little more body would be appropriate, as it's tipping towards being a bit thin. Overall, though, very enjoyable porter with a unique malt complexity that certainly differs than most typical examples in the marketplace today.
