Forgive me brothers, for I have sinned. It's been a month and ten days since my last beer review.
Poured very pretty dark, dark brown, nearly black with a hint of amber. Thick tan head that sticks around and solid lacing. I don't want to drink, it looks so good.
Smells like rye bread, yeasty and sweet.
The taste is OK, a bit astringent, but a good balance of flavor with a slight, slight hint of a coffee flavor. A little bit of a let down after the look and smell built me up. To be fair, this bottle was marked "Best purchased by April," I bought it in March and am just now drinking it in July.
Mouthfeel is smooth, almost watery, but smooth.
I'd be willing to try this again. It is very drinkable for the style and may be a good transition beer for those not yet into darker stuff.
