Poured from a bottle in the SA Holiday Sampler to an imperial pint. Best by April 2011 notched into label.
Appearance: Very dark brown with only a slight red tint. Close to the color of Coke Classic. A thin, tan head, the least head of any of the SA Holiday Sampler brews I've reviewed to date, but nice lacing down the glass.
Smell: Sweet and malty with chocolate and caramel.
Taste: Very malty with chocolate and roasted coffee notes in the middle, a hoppy bite up front and in the finish. Exceptionally robust and rich flavor.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium bodied brew with just enough carbonation to give you a tingle but not dry you out.
Drinkability: This is a very balanced porter that offers both a hoppy bite and smooth, roasted coffee and chocolate flavors. I could drink several of these. Probably my 2nd favorite from the SA Holiday Sampler.
