I may actually participate in NBS (Week 615) since I plan to run through as much of my remaining Samuel Adams Bottle Backlog as possible today! Happy, happy, joy, joy! This will mark the occasion of my 4,000th review on this site. It has been quite the journey.

From the bottle: "

I nodded to Tim as I Pop!ped the cap in preparation for a heavy-handed pour. My mouth flew open in disbelief as the liquid entered the glass as its color was an eye-popping deep pink! I watched in rapt interest as a pseudo-cascade occurred and the began to settle into two-plus fingers of what looked like freshly-spun pink cotton candy. Even better was its color, which was actually a spectrum of shades of magenta with the deepest at the top and the lightest at the bottom, but it was slowly blending into a uniformity (SRM = N/A). Nose was unmistakably raspberry and totally natural without any question of artificiality. Mouthfeel was kind of thin, but that is forgivable in this style. The taste was not at all sweet and I really question the neck label's verbiage. My uncle makes homemade wine and raspberry in alcohol always imparts tartness. Here, it seems as though Tim has added tart to tart. It was very much imbued with a raspberry flavor and a light tartness. Actually, I want to amend that and say that it was quite tart. As I readied for my second sip, I realized that my lips were absently puckering of their own accord. It finished with a refreshing dry tartness and coupled with its low ABV, I could really see this as a sipper on a hot summer's day. Well done, Tim!

Pours a dark ruby color, almost mahogany. One finger of quickly dissipating head.

Aroma is of overly ripe raspberries, a bit of funk, and plenty of malt.

Taste is of overly sweet raspberries. Almost like dried and condensed in flavor, yet any natural raspberry-like tartness has been removed. A bit of plum plays through with underlying notes of other nondescript dark fruits. Surprisingly sweet for the style.

Overall, the beer is just alright. I was expecting something a little lighter with less sweetness. I see it pairing well with raspberry and chipotle glazed pork spare ribs. It gets a 71/100.

Part of the 2016 Samuel Adams Longshot Pack - $9.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a dark reddish body with a medium-small, off-white head.

Smell: A fruity, tart, strong raspberry jam scent, like catching a lil' Smucker's up the nostrils.

Taste: Strong, sweet-tart raspberry component, managing to overshadow the underlying beer, leaving the wheat a bit hard to discern. Moderate puckering acidity. A small zip of carbonation on the still quite sweetish finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A bit much.

APPEARANCE: An opaque red. A finger of long lasting, creamy pink head that leaves quite a nice lacing down the glass. Below average carbonation when rocking the glass.
AROMA: A very earthy quality. Subtle rasberries are present.
TASTE: Tart, berries, the rasberries come out in the finish and that tart quality lingers.
FEEL: Adequate carbonation, dry, medium thin mf,
OVERALL: Nice little tart beer. Not sweet, if that's what you're looking for try Rubaeus by Founders. Like tart rasberry juice that is carbonated and no sugar added.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance- The beer pours a cloudy dark reddish color with a one finger fizzy head of foam. The head fades very fast leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is very light overall, consisting of a little bit of raspberry and tart apple as well as some light notes of grassiness and hay.

Taste – The taste follows the nose, being quite light overall with a light raspberry and dark fruit sweetness mixed with some slightly sour and tart green apple and apple cider vinegar flavors. As the taste advances the sweetness of raspberry fades a bit with a little bit more sourness and some yeast coming to the tongue. In the end, with the mix of flavors, one is left with a somewhat dry, crisp raspberry and dark fruit taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is light with a higher carbonation level. For the drier fruity and tart flavors of the brew the feel is rather nice and creates a more refreshing taste overall.

Overall – This was a rather easy drinking Weiss overall. Low in abv.,It’s not too tart or sour, but has just enough flavor/tartness/ fruit to keep one satisfied. Not too bad and well worth a try if you get the opportunity.

This brew is a hazy, murky brown color with a wispy off-white head. The aroma is lightly fruity, with a little acidic scent. The taste is mildly tart with raspberry flavors in the front. Crisp, not at all bitter, and just a little grain character. It's not quite a berliner weisse, but it is refreshing and enjoyable.

Great fruit beer with the base beer being a Berliner Weiss giving it that extra tart lemon taste. Real raspberry smell and taste on this one. Darn good Longshot beer!
