My second encounter with the infamous Utopias. This time I came prepared with pen and paper for a review. These notes correspond to the 2009 version of the brew, which I enjoyed at the Fermentation Lounge (Tallahassee, Fl) which they opened in celebration of their second birthday.
A: Pours flat and crystal clear, boasting a deep mahogany color.
S: Bouquet is powerful, displaying notes of dark rum, figs, and maple syrup.
T: Flavor follows the nose's lead, loaded with figs and Caribbean rum. Being a fan of quality rums, I have to say that this competes with the best of them.
M: Velvety and smooth, with a slight sticky finish. Very enjoyable.
D: A truly original and breathtaking offering by Sam Adams. this competes with many of the top-shelf single-malts, bourbons, and rums I have encountered when it comes to complexity and flavor balance. Definitely worth a try if you are lucky enough to come across a bottle.
