Saw this in six packs at a local store and wonder what a honey porter would taste like. Needless to say, I was quite surprised.
Pours an incredible dark brown. Amber hues could be seen when held to direct light, about right for a porter. Foam was two fingers width that slowly receded to just a little foam over the course of several minutes. Lacing was all that was left to look at, and lacing is huge in my book.
Aroma is dominated with notes of clover honey, accompanied with nice undertones of chocolate, toffee, and dark fruits. Brown sugar also gets a nice bump up from the honey, almost seems to be caramelized in a way.
Flavor starts out with nice heather honey in the front of the palate, along with brown sugar and molasses to boot. Moves away from dark sweetness and transitions to roasted earthiness and slightly bitter, almost herbal, English hops. The contrast of sweet and bitter is quite nice, like two sides of the same coin, and both with nice flavors to offer.
Mouthfeel is spot on. Lightly creamy with ample carbonation on the tongue pairs perfectly with the honey flavors.
Drinkability is good. Easy to enjoy in a session, or as a after dinner sipping beer, this brew has quite a lot to offer to anyone's palate.
